I think what's confusing people is the wording. In the last page he says "not yet" implying that he gets another chance in future. Though I assume that was actually message for Tsenaya?

Anubis' stone is a "Prime" Waystone, so it's not used unless there's a dire emergency. It's the difference between a grenade and a nuclear warhead ;).

Actually, I don't recall Anubis and Set being related in any way. Anubis was always depicted as the son of Ra with either Hesat, Bastet, or Nephthys. The Greek Plutarch then claimed that Anubis was the illegitimate son of Nephthys and Osiris.

"Pride in your Work" is the prequel to this, and "Meridian" is a side-story that's mainly meant to introduce Barghest as a character :).

This is likely based on the ancient Egyptian practice of mantling gods only when you failed to mantle a deity the god usually didn't kill you on purpose it was more of an "ah man I broke it" for the gods

This page alone is already raising so many questions.

How much of this ceremony was actually staged?
Did Nailah know in advance the guy would fail the test?
Did she deliberately sacrifice his life knowing he was Tsenaya's boyfriend?
Did she seriously have no qualms about scarring HER OWN DAUGHTER for life JUST to teach her a lesson in responsibility‽

If so, then sorry, but Nailah has just passed the point of no sympathy for me. And the subsequent porn scene does not cleanse the palate in the slightest.
Also I felt every bit as traumatized as poor Tsenaya while reading this...
