Endless Realms - Aerial Combat - The Black Rider
Corebook artwork for Endless Realms, a D&D-like "pen and paper" fantasy RPG I'm working for.
I was asked to paint two very different combatants mounted on griffons facing off against each other - Blackie in his fancy golden plate bears a heavily-armoured Kalamir knight, known for their darkly coloured armour.

Like a game itself. Joust had knights flying around on robot modified ostriches to fight off other knights riding condors and corvids. It does look a lot like one of the box arts as well as some creature and mount designs from other games. However there's almost always a common element to fantasies.
Ah, haha, yeah, I remember Joust :b
"However there's almost always a common element to __________."
You can fill in that blank with just about anything and it can still hold true ;) I'm always a bit amused whenever people accuse others of art/character theft over the most basic design concepts: "Your character has black hair and a katana, but MY character had a black hair and katana FIRST. YOU STOLE HER FROM ME 8U"

Heh, it's sort of a semantic thing. I'm not one of those artists that spouts "ORIGINALITY DOESN'T EXIST" - I'm just saying people will always be able to draw comparisons between things, even if they end up being quite different in the end, so it depends on what "level" of originality/uniqueness people are looking at whether or not things will end up similar or not. Like, I probably wouldn't have drawn a comparison between Joust and this picture, yet the comparison can still be drawn.
