What are Yetis?
Yetis are essentially forest spirits, tasked with protecting the plants and animals within these forests. However, as the world has become more and more industrialized and forests have shrunk or disappeared, many Yetis have found themselves moving to cities, taking care of the flora and fauna that live and grow there. Most Yetis prefer to live in groups, as they are generally social, but they are often distrustful of other sapient species, such as other nature spirits, elementals, and, especially, humans, who do all sorts of nasty things to trees for literally no reason. Repulsive! Yeti dwellings depend on where the Yeti is from, but most Yetis are content to sleep under the stars when the weather is nice.
What do they look like?
Yetis have two kinds of traits: Immutable and Rare. Immutable traits are traits that all Yetis have, unless they are mutated. Rare traits still happen with relative frequency, but are more likely to turn heads from other Yetis.
Immutable Traits:
● Big, strong, fluffy arms
● Huge, sharp claws
● Sharp teeth
● Neck Ruff
Rare traits:
● Tails
● Double Horns
● Furry Legs
● Long Ears
Mutations can occur, but since they are so rare, very few of these traits have been documented.
What do they eat?
Most forest-dwelling Yetis are still hunters, and prefer hearty, delicious foods, like fresh meats and forage. Many urban Yetis, though, have discovered snacks and candy. Mmm, grease and sugar. Nobody is quite sure if Yetis even NEED to eat, but you probably shouldn't get between that Yeti and her bag of Double Stuffed Oreos. Just sayin'.
How big are they?
Yetis can be as tall as 8', or as small as only 4'. As a general rule, Yetis that live in big, unspoiled forests are the largest, and ones that live in more urban areas are the smallest. However, as deforestation continues, more and more Yetis are finding themselves being displaced, resulting in a wide variety of sizes occurring in most places that have Yetis. Now that they've been mixing more and more, it's not uncommon to find both big and small Yetis living together. Smol friends and Toll friends! Adorable!
Do they have gender?
Being a not-entirely-corporeal forest spirit doesn't exactly lend itself to having a strict gender system. When left to their own devices, Yetis are pretty lackadaisical about picking one or the other (or the other). "What's their, you know, business look like?" you may ask. "What's under all that fluff?" To which, I answer, "If you're brave enough to get close enough and check, then more power to you, my friend." (TL;DR: they have whatever you'd like them to have.)
Do they have special abilities?
Most Yetis are very strong, even if they don't look like it. Also, to the surprise of most humans who meet them, they are often much lighter or much heavier than you'd expect, making them both surprisingly agile, but incredibly hardy. Aside from physical ability, many of them are able to use at least some nature magic, such as healing and talking to trees (they have a lot to say!).
Perhaps their most notable ability, though, is their capacity to just....disappear. You'd be hard-pressed to find a Yeti who doesn't want to be found. One minute, you're asking an eight-foot monster to help you move this weekend, and the next, they've just vanished into thin air. Well, you think there was something there. Actually, now that you think about it, you aren't entirely sure. Hmm. Weird. Man, you've really got to stop talking to yourself.
In conclusion...
Yetis are fluffy and come in all shapes and sizes. Good for hugging and being hugged. Nice!
