Nordguard Card Game (+Expansion Pack)—limited time only!
For the first time in over a year, I have ordered 40 of the core game and 40 of Nordguard: Tribes of the White Land. I can't promise when or if more will be printed, so if you want either you should order now. I'll be bringing them to Anthrocon 2016 next week, but this is your chance to get your paws on it even if you're not going.

Sorry for the late reply - it's been a... rocky couple of days, to say the least.
I'm so thrilled that you're taking ideas, hahah! Does this mean there's more to come??
Regarding ideas for future things, I don't know if my suggestions are gonna be any good - I have really little experience with games, and it's been quite interesting reading your discussions with other players on how Nordguard's game mechanic works or can be improved!
If I had to add something, I'd be excited to see more crossover characters as promos, haha - Digger is something that springs to mind! Oh, or Beyond the Western Deep! If the respective artists are into it too, of course. ;-; Or maybe some more Corps characters or event cards that flesh out or add complexity to their role in the universe, since I'm interested in learning more about how they fit into the story.
Game-mechanic wise, the only bone-to-pick that I really remember is that the game felt a little linear to me, even with the randomised Event cards (although maybe I should try playing smaller teams / larger areas than the specified ratio). As in... it was always east-south-east-south-east-south with the occasional detour. I did love the Distress Flare event, though - I like the idea of being forced to take alternative routes, which made for a little more unpredictability. I think it'd be super cool if there were maybe game variants (think 'fun rules' or such) and/or "side objectives" that made the directionality a bit more varied. I DUNNO HOW THAT MIGHT WORK OUT, THOUGH. I'm horribly inexperienced with tabletop gaming. ;-;
But aaaaah all that said, the card game is lovely and is itself a wonderful collector's item! TOP OF MY SHELF when it comes to furry merchandise. c:

!! That's cool to hear! I'd def be interested in getting an extra coin, if the shipping isn't too steep. Would the coin by $10 as mentioned in the original post? Or is there a price hike because it's going endangered? Hahah!
Also possibly interested in getting Tribes of the White Land, but I understand from the other conversations that it's currently out of stock...?
Also!! any word on patches? I don't suppose any of those survived the original run...?
And finally, promos would be fantastic! I never had the chance to get my grubby paws on them.

Just thought I'd let you know before I ship all that across the globe. X) It's not needed to play the game; it's just cool.

The game has occasionally been available here: https://www.sofawolf.com/products/n.....uard-card-game But Sofawolf has been very busy with new releases, so I paid for print run myself. The cards will also be available at the Sofawolf table at Anthrocon.
I would like to get this for my birthday tomorrow (splurge!):

Ah yes. We did that with a small run. We ultimately decided to put it in a larger box and put the dice back in. It's more expensive to ship, but the expansion pack fits in it now.
I have found one of our prototype dice, which is a different color from every other Nordguard die on the planet. Would that work? If so, I'll set it aside for you with a coin while I see about getting more of Tender Subject—we seem to be out.

Awesome! Then I would like to do a pre-order for one copy of the expansion pack, plus shipping.
If the promo cards are still free with purchase I'd also like a single copy of each one you still might have left in stock. I would prefer them unsigned if possible, only because my roommates and I play the heck out of this game, and I'm worried that the card sleeves might rub and smear the signatures around. If they are signed already, then that's OK too. ^^

For me, personally, card games have been a hobby of mine for almost two decades now. I absolutely love analyzing the mechanics these games use, and seeing what creators such as yourself and your team do with them.
Aside from the theme of the novel (which I absolutely love because I was born and raised in Alaska, so I'm kind of biased x3), the randomly generated map mechanic offers a ton of replay value, and then there's always the task of trying to anticipate which team members to use.
London, Pi, or sometimes both are usually involved in most games due to their gun-themed abilities, and I usually play as either Nickel or Geri.

Surprisingly few games are set in the North! The Nordguard game also sells disproportionately well in Canada.
Interesting. What makes you pick those characters?
In development, I worried Nickel would be too complex, but eventually reasoned that people who play blue in Magic would like him (complex and board-controlling). Pi is red (quite powerful in theory, but reliant on luck), Oleg black (burning resources in counter-intuitive ways), McKay white (buffing the team), and Geri and Freki green (powerful and straightforward). London is a bit of an odd duck, but I tend to think of him as green/white—the other devs have argued he's colorless.
This continues in the expansion: Iyoto is blue (scrying the deck) and Manny is white/blue (buffing and deck-manipulating).

I had honestly never considered that comparison to MTG before. Going back and looking at the character cards, I can see it now.
We usually end up using London or Pi because of one rather ill-fated game where the starting point was surrounded by Strays on all sides and we had to shoot our way out. After storming the blockade of hostiles our group pretty much decided that from that point on we would always have at least one "gun dog" with us for every game. x3 Manny is going to be a much welcome addition, with his ability to refill guns at waypoints, as well as being able to reshuffle the event deck.
As for my preferences, I use Nickel pretty much for the reason you just described. It's pretty nice having at least a minimal amount of board control as well as the ability to shrug off anything compass related. For Geri/Freki, it's pretty much because of inventory. A lot of the locations in the deck require specialized gear, and the twins have the most space to carry either three small items or one big one and one small one. The ability to negate an event at the cost of carry space is nice as well, and has the potential to be a total party saver if done at the right time.

In design, we went back and forth on how important guns should be. We settled on the current relatively-high level because the combat mechanics are pretty fun.
Fun facts: Pi and London didn't gain their secondary ability until the very last round of testing. They just had the extra uses. The bonuses added a little more personality while bringing them up to the power level of the twins after they gained their "negate" power. Nickel, meanwhile, has had exactly the same mechanics since the original cut-out-of-Coke-boxes version.

I'm glad you did settle on a slight gun emphasis, actually. Despite the frustration the game I mentioned before generated, that frustration is also what made it fun. Taking the gun/combat mechanics out would have completely changed the feel/flow of the game.
Fun mechanics aside, the relatively high gun use also fits the theme much better, and adds a slight touch of "historical accuracy" as well. During the pioneer/gold rush days in Alaska, having a gun was often as important as having food, clothing, shelter, or the money to buy such necessities, depending on where you were. They were especially important if you had any plans on venturing out into the wilderness for any length of time.
