Taken at Grayson Highlands in Virginia.
The ponies are the descendants of 50 Assateague ponies brought to the balds years ago, now with a population of 150.
They're actually pretty docile, and may let you pet them (though frowned upon), but I didn't want to take too many chances with them having young foals.
The two dark ones on their own walked right up behind us while we were looking through binoculars, trying to spot what we thought were ponies on a different ridge. The mom even rubbed up against me when she thought my poncho was a bag of snacks.
