For my latest "Throwback Thursday", I have a 'photo-op' that my brother Glenn took (with his digital smartphone camera) many months ago, when we'd visited the Sugar Chest Antique Mall in Pompano Beach, Florida. At the time, said mall held a special sale on its ancient merchandise (while some of the vendors were serving noshes [cookies, candy, crackers with meat and cheese, etc.] to their customers)...
Also, on hand at the antique mall, there were several 'rescue dogs' on display, representing a non-profit charity organization called SHARE: Shepherd Help And Rescue Effort - which specializes in finding homes for German Shepherds. Glenn took a picture of one of these big dogs who was saved from near death, when it was caught in a fire (that burned off a majority of its fur). Hence, the T-shirt it is wearing (while his hair takes its time to grow back).
Since this 'photo-op' was taken, this GSD has a new owner (who gives him the love and affection he deserves). And last weekend, the Sugar Chest Antique Mall held a similar event for the Summer, with more representatives from SHARE (and three more shepherds - looking for a new home) in attendance.
I'd asked one of the reps how many GSDs had been rescued through the courtesy of this organization. And she told me that over 500 'rescue dogs' (in the southeastern USA) were saved.
If you love German shepherds, and you'd like to find out more about SHARE, go to https://www.shepherdhelp.org Or, if you have a Facebook account, go to one of these two separate links: http://www.facebook.com/Shepherdhelp or http://www.facebook.com/GSShare
