For my very last "Throwback Thursday" presentation (in August, 2016), I have a 'photo-op' of myself, going back to August of 2010, when I'd attended an annual event at the Margate Sportplex Park called "National Night Out". (Ironically, I wanted to have a picture of me taken at this year's edition - but it was cancelled due to passing thunderstorms in my area. So, instead, I'm posting a snapshot of me attending said past edition.)
"National Night Out" started in 1984 (elsewhere in the USA), as a way for the families and friends alike to express their courage against criminals and terrorists by converging in a local park. Exhibits with the local police and fire departments were presented, along with representatives from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard (not to mention the Secret Service and Homeland Security). They were all there to prove that America is always on the alert and making sure all lives are safe here...
A separate section of the park was reserved for the youngsters, with free rides and games, while one of the baseball fields was a mock landing strip for a Broward County Sheriff's Department helicopter. And everyone was given free noshes - in the form of hot dogs and bottled water.
(My favorite part of the whole event was a demonstration of the Margate and Coconut Creek K-9 Corps - whose trained dogs would assist the police in stopping crooks.)
At the August, 2010 edition of "National Night Out", someone was nice enough to take a digital photograph of me, seated on board one of the Margate Police Department's motorcycles. Maybe, at next year's edition, I'll get to have my picture taken atop one of the horses of the Broward County's Mounted Police unit... Maybe!
