Life's A Chibi: Popular Demand
Something I threw together during my down time. From what I've seen around the fandom, well detailed clean illustration don't get that much attention unless it is adult themed or there is hint of sexual suggestion in it. An artist working on a clean illustration day after day, pushing his boundaries to create the masterpiece and it barely gets recognized next to the next artist who spend a day creating a porn image of a copy/paste pose. It does get a bit frustrating from time to time when you work on something you believe is amazing, just to see that it barely gets any attention if it doesn't have an adult alternate version. But sex does sell and it is the fandom's popular demand. It sucks, but people do what they love to do, in any genre. If you feel happy with the illustration you finished that took you days to complete and you feel like its a trophy to your collection, than you created a work of art that you yourself can be proud of and display, whether it gets attention you want it to get or not.

there's a bunch o different factors that impress upon peoples' favour though. it depends on their audience and what people follow them for. if a sfw artist suddenly puts up a nsfw, people would be Confused by it
plus sketches show gesture, often more raw movement, anatomy, bare bones of a work that is more visually appealing than a finished piece
but, yes, theres always a massive drive for notably popular content, such as nsfw and/or fanart and if you work outside of those two things it's a lot harder to get an audience going >:T

True. but you also have to take into account the audience your showing it to. Furries are...well, furries. If you showed off your work at a more traditional art gallery setting you'd probably have more positive reception to the well composed piece.
A master chef who makes filet mignon with subtle spices and complementary wine pairing isn't going to be as popular as the guy who brought a bucket of popeyes chicken if they're serving it at a tailgating party.

Having "slept on it", this comment sticks in my mind the most. Good analogy!
It's what is new about furry, we now have a bunch of "average joes" exposed to art that previously wasn't affordable to them. Reference one of the many discussions about discrepancy in fandom commission prices vs real art world prices. So we get "average joe" tastes.

Yeah, it actually gets me a bit frustrated...ive done so many arwork pieces that took me ages to complete, it took effort with all my skills, but nothing ever gets recognized or loved but as SOOOOON as i put porn in my gallery people go hord it in, no wonder i got little watchers, at least the 150 i got give recognition to what i do...ill admit i DO love NSFW as well, but i do apreciate normal ilustrations, clean or not.
It saddens me a little...makes me feel like ALL people just want PORN PORN PORN, the world aint just about porn you know? That kind of thing can be also be considered art, sure but have an open mind for simple things that arent perverted and beautiful.

if u notice, almost anything people do and/or say has a connection to money and/or sex, hell sometimes violence if u can make money from it. like u said, u worked hard on a clean masterpiece and get little results, but put a small hint of porn in it and, honey!, people will be on u like white on rice and will pay for it too.
Of course. But that shows me that you didn't understand my initial comment.
I never denied that there is shitloads of porn. But there is a shit load of normal art too thats in the most popular list.
The thing is, the ratio porn to normal art is in favor of porn. so of course there will be more porn numerical wise.

First off I will admit in my gallery of 200+ commissions I have maybe 6 "adult" drawings. The constant flow of hyper-boob/penis drawings seems to indicate that a large percentage of the folks out there faving this porono-rubbish are young males that have never had any sexual experiences and this is their fantasy, rather than developing actual social skills adequate to find a partner.
As one of the few artists that can actually draw thought provoking messages that have an actual meaning. I salute you. There are a few of us out here that have enough maturity to appreciate your art. PLEASE keep up the great work.

Agreed porn is good but it is only one element. There are many other wonderful pieces to be had and artists should be encouraged to explore them and display them. Every facet done and encouraged improves the lot. Also if one allows a moment for the non-sexy image they can also see why its really good. So many little well made details are there to discover and appreciate.
While there is truth in this comic I for one try to pick and enjoy on tasteful artwork where possible. I will post positive comments or constructive criticism where applicable, though not being an artist the latter is not too often used. Artists should make good art as well as the pornz. All should have their place ^.^
I see this all the time too. Furthermore, it bugs me that the most you ever get from the fans is a "cool" or "sexy" or some emoticon ( XD ) . I guess we're all too lazy and simple to say why we like a particular piece.
(Also, that stand-in for a super detailed clean piece he's hold does look like it took a lot of work to do! I keep looking closely at it and finding cool details! You sir, never half-ass anything it seems :) )
* Thumbs Up

yeah when i could draw, no matter how many hours i spent on a piece of art i would get nearly shit fav or views. meanwhile someone drawing a dick or an ass gets like the whole TSUNAMI.
WITHOUT talking about people that AREN'T artist but just keep posting their porn they get and get more watches and favs than actual people working hard on stuff...this is one stuff that really piss me off.
i got nothing against porn...but think of other people damn it.

You know it ticks me off to see stuff like this. No, I'm not talking about the fact that sex sells better than artistic integrity, I'm talking about people *whining* about that fact.
Yes, I'm sorry everybody doesn't drop what they're doing to appreciate how special *you* are. Sex sells because sex is done for the audience, it is done to make them feel special. "Good art" is done to make *you* feel special. It's *your* pet project based of *your* experiences and what *you* think is important.
The only people who are going to connect with such a work are you and those almost identical to you. But rather than take heart in the fact that those people who do notice it will truly appreciate what you strove for and will connect with sentiments deeper than any porn could ever hope to reach, you whine and moan about how "oooh I didn't get enough likes and retweets from idiots who are clearly too horny and shallow to appreciate my genius!"
The saddest part is that this piece is no better than the porn you mock. The only difference is that instead of pandering to universal sexual drives, you chose to appeal to the universal narcissism that "no one appreciates how special I am."
Well guess what, that's life.
Enjoy Arbys.

"Sad but true"
Is there an echo in here?
And I'm gonna throw down this point, a major contributing factor is how large is the following for said artist. If they have a small following then it's not their fault if they are in fewer demand than someone who has a larger following and do whatever. I myself wish for a particular artist would have a stronger following but I am not gonna spam "Hey watch this artist here" on another person's comment section on a submission, I'd think it be kinda rude

I barely even try on bigger pictures anymore. I used to do pieces that took months to complete, dozens of reference pictures, a large handful of custom photoshop brushes and tutorials for advanced techniques... -sigh-.
The only attention it ever got was from like 3 people who are so dedicated to my work that they fav literally everything I do. Pretty sweet, I will admit, but it kinda gets to you after a while.
Artists have fragile egos. It's easy to say "do it for yourself" and "draw what makes you happy" but when you are telling your story to an empty room you start to wonder why even bother. I mean, art sites are meant to get art noticed. If I wanted to display my stuff to nobody I could do it without the Internet for way cheaper.

I can relate to this... As one that doesn't tend to draw that sort of thing, I don't usually get much attention but to be honest I don'f really mind. I would rather have people like my style or what I DO draw than like my art because it has boobs the size of Manhattan :C
Hah...yeah, basically the comic I made awhile back too - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/14982654/
xD It's just how that works unfortunately

That is so true that it is sad.
The art you pour hours upon hours on with your own blood, sweat and tears gets next to nothing. But the pic that gives people a bit of porn gets gobbled up like a pot of honey at the Bear family reunion.
Even though the porn gets more likes, the other is far more rewarding in the long run.

My Mother's Uncle was a professional artist and loved drawing expressions and detailed scenes with people... unfortunately those didn't sell well. You know what did? Paintings of beaches. If he was strapped for cash he'd paint beaches, instead of the things he wanted to paint.
Sex sells, sex draws the most business. It draws just as much as the food industry. There's a reason it is popular, because people invest time into it. Some of the greatest works are actually sexual in nature. Even statues with male and female genitalia added for realism. Is it sad? yes, but it is not new.

I love certain pieces of good artwork like that myself and hold them up as wall paper they're great art they are very appreciated I believe cause their shown out more in public yeah theres pervs and yeah they're pretty loud I'm one of em but I love the finer details too especially good shading
True, but not sad. Puppies and kittens abandoned in the rain is sad, but not this.
I'm sorry but spending a long time on a piece does not entitle you to have any number of people take time out of their day to appreciate it, say over something else that interests them like porn. Even if only one person faves or comments, rather than complain that more people didn't do the same how about going "wow, thank you for taking the time to appreciate my work even though you dont have to. " Instead going on about how piece A got more attention than piece B, because it's kinky.
To all those going on about how they don't fave porn, cool that's fine. However don't act like it makes you any better than anyone else, it just means you don't care for porn, and possibly that your views of what really matters in a person are skewed if you do think it makes you better.
At the end of the day I say draw what you like and so for yourself first and foremost, and appreciate what ever attention/commissions you may get for said pieces because it's something your given not something your entitled to.

I will never understand people with Hyper Fetishes, and the sudden boom in Dick-Girl pictures is staggering as of late. Personally, I'm quite tired of seeing it. As for the artist that works for weeks at a time on one picture; that's silly to me as well. I prefer cartoony stuff anyways.
I'm talking about browsing and just things you randomly see by traversing the site. I don't watch people who do Dick-Chicks (if I can help it) and have recently had to STOP watching people who took it up suddenly. Like 5-10 artists I had to stop watching recently which only add credence to the sudden boom in the fetish's popularity. I know it's ALWAYS been around. I'm just saying that it's more so now than it ever has been before along with the aforementioned new "thing" in male characters becoming female by putting on a costume, or through some other, less orthodox, manner.
Just a suggestion, next time you may wish to just do a more general example instead of going super specific because it can become less about the point your trying to make and more "eww said fetish" or "I don't understand why people like that shit," which can in return just offend watchers that might have agreed with you.
Being focused on porn art over sfw art is tearing others down while raising others up?
I'm pretty sure tearing someone down is an active effort (saying "wow drawn porn this sucks"), not a passive one (simply not faving), just saying :o
Like I can see the point in his words, it's just not aligned totally right to the piece in question.

I'm just going to put it out there that there's a fine line between actually kink shaming, and using an extreme to illustrate a point.
This is not actual kink shaming. This is using an extreme (a known fetish, which by technical definition is not the norm, and one that is more on the fringe as compared to other 'standard' fetishes) to illustrate a point. (That someone can shit out an extreme fetish and half ass it and it'll get more likes than serious, sfw works.)
Actually kink shaming would not work here, unless the norm was that people were bitching than extreme fetish art wasn't getting the likes other fetish or non-fetish art did (which is frankly stupid because it's statistically expected)
Or, better yet, some way that directly says "Hey look at this piece of art, and here's my completely subjective opinion that I am constructing to appear as objective fact as to why it is vastly and utterly superior to the trash that is this select extreme fetish, because I actually have something against this fetish." And the line greys when you bring in objective fact that points out a literal danger or something illegal, because people will defend zoophilia and say 'stop kink shaming' because it's not illegal in some places and the legality of a thing is somehow a decider as to the validity of a kink, which would go against the entire statement of stop kink shaming in a way that is obvious but I don't have time to edit this because edit window ._.

i like all art, i dont care about the theme.. some of my friends go for the hyper, some go for just strange.. me i like it all i change my backgrounds frequently on my computers and they go from lineart to full color to full cell.. the majority of them is clean or tasteful not always nude sometimes half outfit it all depends on my mood but i like all art no matter what form..
It's pretty simple. adult stuff targets other desires than normal stuff. with adult, good art is a plus, but not the main focus. with clean art, it is. The phrase "Sex sells" exists for a reason.
The same reason why stuff like XKCD has plenty of people liking it despite the art being abysmal - just that there it's humor not sexuality. just surviving on art alone is hard.

Unfortunately many in the Fandom use it as an escape from life... But you cannot run from human desire... And eventually it turns into a desire for intimacy. Sadly, sex is pursued above even true love, a heart love, the love of someone's essence... Sex should be a byproduct not a goal.
While raised to an amazing level in the furry fandom, one my even say "hyper"sexualized *cough*, it's certainly not unique to it. I mean one need only to watch television and observe how many attractive and often scantily clad females are shown to sell anything from cars to mouthwash to see it's a technique that is apparently high in every advertising meeting
I draw both types, granted more SFW than NSFW, I personally don't mind too much because either way I enjoy what I draw and the person I drew it for enjoys it as well which is, at the end of the day, all I /really/ care about although the rare nice comment is really heartwarming whether it be on a SFW or NSFW piece.
I don't think it's fair for anybody to be nasty at someone for what they draw to begin with; not that you are of course, people just tend to swing that way for some reason when the topic comes up. Shame, really.

Or you could just be grateful for the fact that other people like your works at all, instead of complaining that they don't like it enough.
If you really, REALLY want those extra views, if they matter that damn much to you, you can always pander to the crowd. But if you're happy with drawing stuff because you like doing it, then those views don't fucking matter in the first place, so why even whine about it?

Okay ,yes I like porn. Also I like artists who stick to their guns on clean artwork. My favorite artist Lizkay never drew a sexual picture as far as I know and I loved her work because of how she did her work.
I like you as an artist because even thought I have not seen a lot of sexual stuff here your artwork is chibi and CUTE.

It's true, as much as people want others to love their art, that is not a demand they can make. They then have to make the art for themselves, unless it is specifically for an individual, or they're just due for disappointment.
I love porn. I really love porn. >.>
I'm not going to pretend I don't.
But on the other hand, I really love the art that clearly took a lot of work and just stands out. A lot of times, it does need to be something I can thematically relate to. In needs to have emotion, or powerful depth that draws you in. It can be rather hit or miss, depends on how the audience stumbles upon it.
It's odd, but sometimes I feel like people don't do research on WHEN the target audience is most likely to view the front page, or what tags they are likely to look for.
Seems there's more to art than the art itself. :/ This complicated world is frustrating.

Tbh , that's just how the human brain works. It's much easier to find NSFW art attractive than SFW art.
In NSFW even if there are some mistakes, even if it's not exactly your kink(s) or if you're not really a fan of the artstyle, your brain's gonna tell you "hey, that's hot. Don't worry about this thing right there in that corner you might not like. You like this.". It doesn't take much reflection, you pretty much instantly know you like it.
SFW art is MUCH more specific and case to case, the art piece is usually portraying an emotion or a state of mind the artist was in when he/she made it, unless you connect with that specific emotion you most likely won't get that *click* that instantly makes you like that piece. If it doesn't click for you right away you'd need to stop and analyse the piece thoroughly for a couple of minutes.
And let's face it, you probably wouldn't find most people on this site in an IRL art gallerie. Most of us certainly art Art Critique material no matter how much of it we consume. And I also imagine most of use got busy lives and overfilled submission boxes, we can't all afford to spend 5-10 minutes on every piece of beautiful art sitting in our inbox, no matter how much we'd want to. You prioritize your time and that mostly mean going with your guts and impulses(sexuality being a particularly common and strong impulse), that also means that if you don't instantly like the art in the first 5 to 15 seconds after you clicked on it, you are most likely going to skip to the next piece instead of even considering faving it.
The art market is very crowded and sadly there's only so much room on the "top", since it is a market, those that are on the top don't even have to be the ones that put the most effort in every art piece, they just know how best to use it and appeal to their consummers.
Clean art is usually personnal or a commission between two parties.
Personnal art is what it is, personnal it appeals to you(the artist) first and foremost, don't expect everyone to understand it, be thankful some DO connect with it. Personnal art is not really the way to go if you're hunting view, at least not the easiest way, it's not impossible, but it's hard.
Commissioned art is usually made for the commissioner and thus is mostly made to appeal to him/her. Now art doesn't need to be made specifically for you, for you to enjoy it, but your brain will make it much easier for NSFW art to be instantly appealing than SFW art.
So yeah that's pretty much it, if you are hunting for views, in term of difficulty from easiest to hard it looks to me like NSFW Art > SFW Commisons > SFW Personnal Art. I wouldn't call it sad, it's just how it's always been and I doubt it changes any time soon. :/

I love the hell out of NSFW and SFW art both, regardless of what my profile looks like. I look at every submission that ends up in my inbox. What's in my favorites is reflective of the art that I end up seeing.
I have a whole art blog dedicated to SFW art that I think is completely rad. However, tumblr does a lot more for discoverability than FA does. It's really hard to find anything new here. To find something new you'd have to actively go out of your way to find it.
Not to mention, making SFW art that's engaging is a whole lot harder than it is to make NSFW art engaging. NSFW's a "cheap" sort of engagement, sure. But For an SFW picture to stand out it has to have something special to it. For me, personally, it's character design. I'm a character design junkie. However, it's more than just that, theme, action, setting, color pallet, art style, all things that still have a make or break on whether or not something ends up looking likable. What ends up clicking with me, however, may not click with the people that see it. As much as one can complain about it, that's just the way of things.
My advice is to share the people who have shown support to your personal projects that you consider to be of more worth. Popularity doesn't matter, the people who share in your love for your work do. Quite frankly, they deserve more of the mental energy that's wasted on wanting to change people that aren't going to change just because you guilt trip them.
P.S. for the echo chamber that this has become. You want to see change? Reflect that in what you chose to engage with. Want more SFW recognition? Fave more SFW. Seek out more SFW, make more SFW known. Build a fanbase around SFW art.

Because other non-furry art communities aren't like this, amirite?
Here's one: 4chan's "Adult Cartoons" board. All Western-style, All Human,...All NSFW -->[link]<-- Guess it's not just furries. Ooh, looky there's even the usual assortment of kinks.
The "problem" such that it is, is that this is an audience that isn't composed primarily of people that are in some way morally or contractually obligated to seek out high-concept works of art over all else. It's just any Joe or Jane Schmoe who can be bothered to sign up for an account. Intellectually, that's not a high bar.
The other "problem" is that NSFW is available right next to G-rated works, making the comparison of attention-getting ability openly visible. This is the only thing really unique to furry--in most other art communities, SFW and NSFW aren't available side-by-side on the same service, so it's easy to say other communities are more high-minded--there isn't any smut available on their content platforms to distort the numbers.
Want another one? Ever read a complaint by an artist about people not appreciating the amount of work that goes into making decent art (i.e. people asking for freebies, or complaining about commission prices) mostly because "those people" aren't artists?. Even if SFW works were favored in this community, I'd suspect you'd have the same issue with people not seeing all the blood/sweat/tears that went into your most elaborate works, assuming you slapped it together in a couple of hours because they don't have any first-hand experience doing the same themselves.
That leads us right back into the 'problem' of an audience who isn't obligated to employ artistic merit over "whatever rustles their jimmies" when it comes to what they'll click on. The only alternative is to create an all encompassing art community where:
A: NSFW is not allowed
B: "watchers" are required to demonstrate an ability to properly judge artistic merit before being allowed to have an account
C: All other outlets for NSFW and "sub-par" artwork are shut down
Then you might have your desired situation. Until it starts to feel...artificial.

Funny you should mention that...right after " this is an audience that isn't composed primarily of..."
I originally wrote "A: Art students and B: Art critics"
...as hypothetical examples of folks who might feel obligated to only look at 'artistically significant' works instead of what appeals to them personally. But after adding a disclaimer that I didn't really know if those two classes of people really are like that, I decided to change it to how it reads now.
But the reason why I'm hard-pressed to call the situation "sad". (even though I could do perfectly well in a furry ecosystem that only valued SFW works), is because I have this bad habit of actually thinking out how one would make the "ideal situation" come about, and all these unintended side effects start cropping up. Stuff like:
"Okay, now we got total adoration of G-rated works for little other reason that...they're G-rated, buuuut we also have a police state making sure you only make G-rated stuff...plus all the other intrusions into daily life that came as part of the package that we didn't expect". Or:
"Okay, we (somehow) got Homo Sapiens to stop thinking of sex so much...Aaand now we have all the reproductive capability of giant pandas. This...might be problematic later on".
Soo...yeah :D

Hehe...
y'know, I tend to also work out hypothetical changes complete with unintended consequences, but they're usually technological.
actually, Homo Sapiens with the reproductive capacity of giant pandas wouldn't be so bad for a while, given the current world problems are driven by population. XD

Typically I will stop and grab any picture, porn or not that has unique tricks, lighting, and shading techniques that I find interesting and want to try for my self, and have learned that you can do some pretty crazy optical illusions that full the eye into thinking something is one way when it really isn't. Usually I will try those things I learn on my porn images to get the feel for the trick then use it on my normal stuff once I have it down pat. You might also be surprised that the flavor text you add to the image description helps out a huge amount. This might be bad to say, but being an artist some times involves you not caring at all what others thinks, knowing you did a better job then the last is really all you need. The reason you do art ether porn or Pg kind of work is because there is an audience for it that will enjoy it, some times that audience isn't always super huge. I'm sure there was a point in there some place.
It kinda sickens me...
I know this frustration...
But an artist should not look for the approval of others to do what he/she loves...
A truly great artist just draws what his/her heart tells him/her to...
If you're looking for the approval of others you're going to spend your life doing things you hate...

Hoo boy, I know that feeling as an artist. A while back I tried an adult pic, but it wasn't very good. So I decided to just do clean art. Barely any views. Bout 3 years later, I attempt adult art again, and it works this time. Though my adult art doesn't get a lot of attention either, seeing as I'm not very popular on FA yet, adult art in general seems to get a hellova lot more attention. It's sad, but true. :/
Totally agree with this pic - have had it happen again and again. my solution was - fuck it! - i'll just post whatever i want, - and if pg pic gets 4 faves and an r or x pic gets 80 faves, i'm not surprised, and don't really care.
The irony here, of course, is that this pic has received 748 faves at the time of this reply.

Well the way I see it you can either complain about the way things are or use that knowledge to your advantage.
FA isn't the only site out there, I'm sure that there are sites more dedicated and have a stronger following of SFW images.
It always makes me scratch my head hearing people complain about how a site works, rather than finding a site more geared towards what they want to publish.
Use multiple sites! Link them all together and use them for different themes and shades of SFW/NSFW depending on how you feel~
No one site is ever going to be the end-all cure-all to everything that you want to publish.

I know how that feels. Spending weeks on a art piece and get few likes and comments just to have a dick with boobs (pardon the frase) sketch get a bunch.
To me that has actually gotten so bad that I spend longer time between the bigger projects then I used to.
I like what you did here as it reminds me to get back and make more clean at. Not just sketch away and hardly ever post anything. Thanks.

I mostly do SFW drawings. Every now and then I might post an adult or mature drawing, but I don't wanna attract anyone that'll only watch me to see the NSFW drawings. Sometimes, it does bother me why people doesn't favorite my drawings. I get like one or two favorites. It makes me think my drawings look bad. But I'm not letting that bothering me anymore. :v I like my drawings just the way they are.
I know what you're talking about. My avatar is a character I created for a story I'm currently working on. I commissioned an artist to draw her and I made certain that he knew that no nudity nor sex would be allowed with her. (She's got a b/f after all.) So far, less than 10 people have favorited it. On the other hand, another drawing of her in which she's facing the person has 13 favorites. I believe it's the position, a somewhat suggestive pose, in which she's sitting that got the favorites.
"Why are you a furry?"
"Well it all started with Disney Movies!"
"Did Disney have porn in his films with furry?"
"Um... no."
"Then why do you hate clean art?"
is my question frequintly.
I hope to change that.
It hurts when people don't like my art because i don't draw in the style or way they want.
I don't draw anything sexual, which is probably why i'm lacking many watchers XD

I definitely understand your point. Sex has sold well ever since sexuality started existing. And sadly, some people have been so overwhelmed with their sexual desires that they've become too blind to see other beauties in the world.
I say YES to every person that wants to stick to their style and draw whatever they want, because I value honesty and self-respect, and people that didn't lose these things between all the awful group pressure everywhere.
Don't forget that if your goal is to become popular with your art without losing your intended content that you need work on ways to make it appealing, for people to find it eye-catching and unique. Remember that Walt Disney studios managed to make a mouse world-famous, and Warner Brothers did the same with a rabbit that trolls people. And they, too, had to go through a lot of character development and style experiments till they got there. The first sketches and gigs of Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny were rather weird compared to what came later. That's normal.
Don't give up hope only because your first few big artworks didn't get much attention yet. Hopefully, you'll look at that same art again in a few years and say "Man, this stinks! No wonder it barely got any attention, I can draw much better today!"
You won't be able to change the fact that sex sells well, but you can influence the quality of your own art to be appealing without having any sexualisation in it. <3 If you start following the crowd, you'll soon be part of the forgotten copy-pasta artists.

I've seen a lot of people say pretty much the same thing, but I don't know how entirely true this is. There are plenty of popular artists here that do little or no porn.
Also, spending a lot of time and effort on a piece is completely irrelevant to whether anyone would like it, and in itself doesn't make one piece of art better than any other.
I would tend to think an artist should do work that they enjoy and feel comfortable with subject-wise. If they don't, they won't be working to their potential, they'll make mediocre art, and they're going to end up making themselves miserable. If they're making art just for popularity, they're setting themselves up for a lot of disappointment, even if they're really "Good".
As for the viewers/ consumers, I would hope people would have open minds and enjoy a wide variety of art, but ultimately, people like what they like, and there's nothing wrong with that. If they're here at all, at least they're supporting art.

This idea is what drives me when I write.
My stories tend to be sexual, but I like to think that I add a little more substance, story, and emotion than the simple "John fucked Shirley" tendencies. It takes me longer, but...I'd like to think that the effort I put into my work shows off in the quality produced.
Although sometimes I feel like writing is dismissed in the face of imagery. Imagery is instant gratification...but pieces of writing? It takes the viewer alot more time to really enjoy it...

Er. i started looking at art with the opposite problem. i would only favorite clean stuff.
Then I started noticing that no, it was pron, but daym. Some of this stuff was AMAZING.
So.. I slowly converted over to the dark side. Mind, I still only favorite the good stuff.
There has to be something in the artwork itself, not just the content, that makes me go wow, I like that a lot.
admitted, You do both. <3 And I love the emotion in your art. I share it with others a lot.

so true sadly, and indeed, really frustrating for an artist. even without talk about porn, it's weird how you can draw a masterpeice and get a poor amount of views/commentatries, and how you can get really more with a crappy doodle, just because the topic grabs the viewers' attention
and many artists accept that with difficulties, and at the end we can loose ourselves, drawings for the others. not for ourselves.
at the ends, the most important is to draw what we loves when we have the feeling to do it (regardless those which live and work in artistic jobs)

I know this image is a year old now, but looking back on how my previous comment was extremely rude I'd like to apologize.
I realize that the comic is in no way meant to shame people for not taking a greater interest in well drawn sfw art over lesser quality nsfw/fetish art but was meant only to point out the phenomenon. I think I took my aggression over the way some people choose to make this a high horse topic out on you and i regret that.

i dunno if this counts but i definitely relate to this on some level. it can sting for a little while.
i was part of a collab which i was super proud of; 2 months of labor, we enjoyed it. FA users were really quiet about it, 3 comments at best but largely indifferent to the work. several NSFW artists began drawing the same characters not long after-- sexing the heck out of them all-- and everybody on FA began pouring their heart out to them like it was this wonderful blessing. XD
i mean call me sour grapes but i felt like the thunder had been taken away from me. XD i drew characters in clean situations, the porn artists swept mine under the rug, lol.
tl;dr. sex does sell unfortunately, but as long as i enjoy what i was able to do i shouldn't let it bother me.... still sucks though. ^^;

I fav both SFW and NSFW art but yeah there are people who prefer porn nowadays rather than cool, epic, clean, and amazing art that artist work so long to do.
also this pic actually grew on me and everyone else statement about this I decided to add mine's too, but anyway your artstyle is amazing and I feel inspired.
