Another finished piece for my last illustration class! This is an interior illustration for a children's book I've written about a giant house cat who rules his forest with an iron paw! A young girl named Heather comes along and tames his wild heart by becoming his best friend. She shows him all the wonderful things in his forest that he's been missing, and they have cool adventures! Here they discover a trio of baby dragons waiting for their mother to come home.
The story is based off a fantasy my sister had when we were kids, about our cat Mitten being big enough to ride around on. I made this piece as a gift for her too, which I promised to her when Mitten died several years ago. But I wasn't confident enough in my skills to make it until now, so I'm glad I waited. =)

Thank you! Well, usually the bulks of the color is marker, which is much more quick and smooth than acrylic. Then I refine things with colored pencil and acrylic paint! However, with this one I actually screwed up the background in markers the first time. I ended up painting over it entirely with acrylic. XD
I will say, that I learned a new technique from my screw up! If you use markers to bulk in the darks and colors, you can use slightly washed out acrylic on top to paint in details. It ends up looking extremely smooth with the least amount of paint.

This is such an interesting piece--it's hard to pull of different scales like that and make it work. I really like the girl's expression and the detail on the cat's fur. The little dragons are a nice touch too! I wish I could draw foliage/trees better, you did a wonderful job on that too. I really love fantasy pieces like this
