Now this page is awesome from a technical aspect.
I'm not sure if it was your intention to demonstrate it like that or it was a fun project you had bouncing around in your mind, but pages 14-15 and the gif accompanying it really show the pros and cons of both animated and comic. I really enjoy your little touch ups on the rendered characters in the comic over an actual animations, your eye for detail in not just the mouths but the eyes really are what make the expressions pop (though I am assuming that this is what you are doing, apologies if I got it wrong.) However, the animation really helps convey and streamline/break up caboose's explanation with flawless ease, but with the unfortunate side-effect in lost detailing to cut down render times.
I must say, I am having a fun time studying this comic, though I hope I'm not leaving too many fave bombs in your inbox, I'm mainly doing this as a means to help increase visibility on this site, not just supporting it.

Hey thanks, amigo. I appreciate support any way I can get it, y'know? Bombs away. :P
You're fairly spot-on about the reasons the comic and animations look different. Painting on top of a still render is a very easy way to enhance the artwork/background and create complex/nuanced facial expressions, so that's the way to go for a comic page. The reason the animations aren't looking as good is because doing that for hundreds of frames (rather than 6-8 panels) would be a nightmare. What's really up is that my models and animation/render techniques just aren't sophisticated enough (...yet!) Between every chapter I update all my models and render settings and think of new ways to improve, so who knows--maybe one day I'll be able to make kickass gifs. :P

Just watched the animated version of this on your website. Very nice. Mind you, the gif does cut back to the beginning too quickly for me to read the captions after ‘Sounds like a shame, whatever you just said’.
Edit: Never mind. Turns out it’s just a repeat of the ‘whatever you just said’ line before it restarts.
