Oh holy HELL am I glad to be done with this. It started out as a sketch of T-Ko like a month ago, and it evolved into this. I wanted, just once, to do a nice, relevant colored background for something. And I'm fairly satisfied here.
Tailsko lounges about, unconcerned with robots nor the men who make them.

Hmmmm, very nice! Good work here, it's nice to see you stretching yourself - it's been ages since you've done a background. It might be a bit simple, but then again, it FITS very well - the colors are bright and quite suitable, and you get a certain energy from it. I sort of half-expect to see Sonic zooming around in the background.
Keep up the great work, you're doing nicely!

You seem to really be becoming better and better with color/shading/lighting, and it looks great!
If only we could have a place as peaceful as that........ Oh hell, who am I kidding? If we had a place like that, you wouldn't be able to see any ground because there'd be far too much yiffin going on. =B

The question that the Sonic worlds have always raised in me, is how does the landscape develop to be a gigantic checkerboard racetrack thing with loops? maybe i'm wrong but I havn't seen very many giant loops in nature. Though I must admit, that would be pretty sweet. Also, that background is quite effective, or all that it is simple.
what is the point of a tube top with no pants?

I'll have the girl herself answer these ones.
Tailsko: Y'know, don't think that we're totally fine with it all just being here either! Nobody honestly knows where it came from, though. Some people think that there was some prehistoric people that built this kinda stuff, but it's sorta one of those "let's throw this out there" theories rather than anything substantiated by more than lunchtime musings.
...! Well, mister! I'm not modest, but tape a couple of big fat waterballoons to your chest, then go running for a while. You'll come over to my side in no time. =)

*tips his hat* My apologies for the disrespect. I'm fatigued, not thinking what I say through as much as I should. I don't think about these things since I usually only run when people are trying to shoot me and I have other things on my mind, though I can imagine if I tried to do it without my gunbelts properly secured things would be pretty difficult.
Awesome picture, I'm betting that background took quite a while. It turned out really nice. :)
I would think that for some period between the games these zones would be safe enough to lounge around in and just sit on the grass and relax without having to worry about everything trying to kill you.

The background seems a bit warped and hard to perceive, however this does match up with some of the subject matter pretty well. ( It also has a very slight touch of Salvador Dali to it.)
The choice for arrangement, with the lake in the background and a mountain range beyond, was a pretty good idea.
Your use of perspective over distance could use some work, but your arrangement and toning are still strong.
The lack of a solid outline over anything but the subject does a great job of pulling attention toward her. And with her at the bottom and a detailed background at the top, if someone started staring at the top of this piece and works their way down, they are in for quite a treat. Your choice of color sees to that.
You seem to have a bit of difficulty drawing straight lines, a lot of artists do. There are also some artists who instead can't handle curves.
The best way I know of to practice and improve with straight lines is with a smattering of architectural or design drafting.
Good work, keep it up!

Sharply rendered character, fuzzy painter-ly full color backdrop. She looks animated even though she's just sitting there. I'd call this one of your top pieces. And faved for the contrast between character and background.
Whatever you did to produce this, it was worth it :)

You made me drag out my Genesis and hook it up, just to run through those checkered Elysian fields once again. Dragged kicking and screaming out of retirement, it curses your name! Sure, I could have just downloaded the emulator, but where's the fun in that?
You really went to town with the posing in this one. Not only are we talking scads of perspective, but that's one of the most laid back enjoying the sun lounges I've seen in some time.

You like to draw cartoons so I will try to give you advice from the toon point of view. I think it would be unfair to judge you on realistic shading that you neither yet probably practice or enjoy. So this is more about overall composition rather than changing a style.
I don't like the loop hovering out there, not connected to anything. I would have drawn the brown to go off screen.
The character's shadow is strange. Where is the light coming from? It looks like you tried to shade it from two directions but kept both.
Belly button? :V
For distant objects, try to blur and/or add gray/blue. If you use a program that supports layers, simply pick the background as a layer and use "gaussian blur". The farther away, the higher the number and more of a blur. see http://www.furaffinity.net/full/2138591/
Blurring is a little extreme but it can really add some flare and kick to a pic, it makes it look like it was taken from a camera.
Also since you probably want the focus on the girl, the non-blurred background just says "hey look over here".
Add gray or blue for a distance fog. Experiment with blurring and adding blue/gray and see what works for you. Personally I'd tell you to preserve the toon style. You don't shade with a low hardness so blurring everything would throw off the style. I'd go with adding blue/gray but try both, you may really like one.
Try shading the sky not as a single color, but as a gradient of a lighter blue to a darker. You can do the same for the water but make it more severe.
Also, for pics where the sun is the main source of light, try shading with yellow as the highlights and purple or blue as the shadow.

Loop
You know, studying the source material really messed me up in this case. Those things are actual dirt in the middle of grass- sudden start and stop. It makes no sense. And if Chewbacca is from Endor, you must acquit.
Shadow
You should've seen the first ten attempts. Yeah, when the light source isn't hard to the left or right, fail is imminent. That's a real case of 'artist eyeball' failing me hard, 'cause I can't envision what it should look like.
Belly Button
Aesthetics. What hides a cooch will hide a navel! Though I waffle hard on this, and the only criteria for it is "what's cuter?"
Blurring
Backgrounds are such rare territory for me, I never really even got this far into it. But yeah, I definitely see the merits there. I'm eager to play around with that, actually. Now to just draw something passable in the background. Though I think the reason why I always highlight with white instead of yellows is because I'm instinctively trying to resist the style that's ever present in the market here- which is oversaturated with the tacky velvet airbrushed sunset art that they sell everywhere in my state. Maybe I can make it look tasteful. But the blurring stuff looks fun to play with.

I suppose you're right. But the old Sonic is 2D so I guess it would be a challenge for a 2D theme to fit in a 3D picture.

This will improve with time, trust me.
But don't make the light source very hard to the left or right. Try to challenge yourself.

Excellent, if you try new things you will always improve.
Good Luck!
