'calm down, you mad fucker'.
Whitey often sleeps in the corner in his restaurant because the hours sometimes mean there is no point going home. He also has terrible nightmares/panic attacks.
I don't know why Ramsay would have been lurking around whitey's restaurant this time of night....perhaps he was 'borrowing' something. Either way, its the done thing not to leave someone freaking out in a corner in the dark, even if you do hate them.
I think this was more just an urge to draw a freaked out rat. Rats freak out so well. I wanted to kinda rid whitey of a lot of his human-esque composure and have him act like a real, spooked rat would; all big eyes and scratchy claws.
And of course, it caters to my adoration of the 'love/hate' relationship between these two <3
I had a lot of trouble with whitey's eyes. They're a lot bigger than I'd normally draw them, he usually has quite squinty eyes, but it was to emphasise the panicked rattyness a bit more for this situation.
But I wasn't sure which way to have him looking. I tried having him look at Ramsay directly, but that seemed to imply he knew he was there, which I didn't want. I then tried having him look down at the ground, but that sorta made it look like he was focusing on something and trying to scoot away from it, and I wanted a more blind, irrational, half-asleep terror. So I went with this sort of focusing on nothing....thing.
Tried something new on Whitey's fur; wanted to make it look like he's fluffing his fur out, like scared rats do. Its doubly hard since he's a rex too, but Im not sure about it. Looks interesting, but not necessarily like fluffed up rat fur.
No reference at all used for this so my anatomy might be a bit funky, I've looked at it for so long and tweaked it so much that I've lost the ability to tell anymore. Some parts of it are wrong if we're talking human anatomy, but right if we're talking rat anatomy, and vice versa. I actually drew this while stoned, chatting, and watching TV, it was just a doodle so not meant to be completed, but I kinda liked the idea enough to do something with it. But either way, more a character building/atmosphere pic than anything else.
And I know my perspective is horrible on the wall tiles :P
I hope all my UK friends watched hell's kitchen tonight *glares*

I can really relate to this piece to some degree. A little more than a year ago, I had a horrible strain of panic attacks that really affected my daily life. It got so bad at one point, that they happened once or twice a day at least, and I think you've managed to convey the terror that goes on during these periods wonderfully.
It really resonated with me when I first saw it, and I'm glad that you've posted it up.
