Venti wasn't surprised to see Otis' number when he checked to see who was calling him. "How do you look in the magazine?" he asked, hoping Otis was too excited to see his pictures to notice the lack of the jackal's.
"I look okay, but why the Hell are you not in the mag?" Otis sounded upset, as if he'd been the one who got his pictures sabotaged.
Venti decided to be honest with him. "Alex sabotaged it. He set me up good, I admit it, but somehow I knew this was going to happen."
"That sunnabitch." Venti had never heard Otis drawl so angrily before. Given the circumstances he'd find such a thing quite hot, but not today. "I'm gonna find that cow and I'm gonna string him up for yuh, Venti."
Damn, how the otter's accent thickened the angrier he got. "Don't worry about Alexander," Venti said soothingly in the hopes of calming down the otter. "Why don't you come down to my place and we'll go grab a pizza."
"Fuck that bastard," Otis growled. "I see him on the streets I'm gonna beat him."
"And then you'd get arrested, Otis. Don't fight my battles for me." He recalled someone telling him that not too long ago, but couldn't quite recall who. "I'll be okay, dude. Seriously."
"But Venti, I know how much you were lookin' forward to showin' off the mag to everyone." Well, at least Otis was calming down now. The trick was to keep him on the right track.
"I'll live, Otis. I can show you off to my buds instead. I know me a model! How awesome is that?" Hearing Otis chuckle on the other end encouraged him to continue. "It's a downer, yeah, but at least you get to be in the mag."
"You gonna get paid at least?"
"With a little extra thrown in. Joe really felt bad about this."
"Joe ain't too shabby. Mebbe we oughtta take him out to dinner."
Venti nodded. "I think we should find out if he likes sushi the next time he's in town."
"It's like you're readin' my mind."
Venti chuckled. "More like I just know your stomach real well."

It would be nicer to see Alex got what he deserves. It is my experience that such... individuals eventualy step on on someone“s feet that are larger than his and , well, why spoil the surprise? People who think that are smarter than everyone and never ever realize that there are people that are even more.
Too many complications is the deal, and not enough evidence or justification of needs.
It also won't solve the problem. I think that Alex is more affected by this now though, because everyone associated to that photo-shoot that saw Venti with his potential now have someone to support, whereas Alex will be shot down by his selfish ulterior motives to get to Venti in the first place.

Wouldn't worry about it, people. If Alex got canned as the previous entry said he did, Alex's career is now officially in "hog-tied" status. The industry does not take kindly to both unprofessionalism and those who are guilty of it; Alex will find it very hard to get a publisher to contract him for an assignment. Alex just might have to fall back on independent gigs, which mostly pay far less as they are far less frequent.
Only person Alex burned his himself. Venti can, and may, simply be called back by the publication for another shoot in order to make up for Alex's plotting while Alex is pretty much on his own from here.
