Welcome to Frappuchinos! Now Serving: Alexander's Fate
"So he didn't get fired?" Venti said, leaning forward, ears swiveled towards Joe.
Joe shook his head, picking off a imaginary piece of lint from his dress jacket. His ears were slightly flattened back, and couldn't make eye contact with Venti. "No. I found out they just transferred him to another magazine. The management concluded that it was just an unfortunate accident."
"An accident." Venti sat up, drinking the last of his mango smoothie. "Yeah, and the fact it was all of my pictures that were overdeveloped and no one else's in the batch makes it an accident."
"If it makes you feel any better, I'm going to arrange it so that you never have to work with him." Joe finally looked at Venti, and was surprised to see the jackal with a pleasant smile. He expected a frown or maybe a scowl.
"That does make me feel better, Joe. You really proved yourself to be a top notch guy." Venti sat the cup down then placed his hands behind his head, lounging in the chair. "I don't think many guys in the magazine field would go through such trouble to help out a newb, am I right?"
"You might be correct, but some that see a person's potential would bend over backwards to make sure said person gets everything they need to succeed." Joe grinned toothily. "After all, your success means our success."
Venti smirked. "You're such a predator, Joe."
Joe shrugged. "I'm always on the hunt to make more money for the magazine, but that doesn't mean I'm going to screw anyone out of their hard earned cash."
"I still wish Alexander could've gotten some form of punishment." Venti's pleasant look deepened into a scowl, one that Joe had anticipated. "He gets away with screwing with me again. One day I'd love to see him get what's coming to him, but I don't think that's going to happen." Venti grew quiet for a second, then added "It's almost as if there ain't no justice in the world."
"That's a double negative, meaning you think there is justice in this world."
"I'd usually agree with you, but not today," Venti said. "Not for him."

Ohhh... so it appears Alex has gotten out of it unharmed? Think again. Sometimes the gears in the industry machine grind stronger in some areas. And there is something as punishing transfers. Same salary, same work, and shall we say... different environment (MWAHAHAH). Anywho, being Alex like it is , it is logical to assume that he has stepped in someone powerful´s feet... and that someone is pulling a favor or two to get even, in a tasteful and indirect way.
...Alexander...jeez, this guy...
brings to mind this quote:
"I used to think it awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, wouldn't it be much worse if life were fair, and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them." -Marcus Cole, Babylon 5

Here's a better one for general living; I do indeed remember it every time something [may] go wrong and count my 'blessings' anyway. I hope I have the accreditation right (I can't quite remember who precisely said it):
"The Universe does not give you what you want, it gives you what you need"
- G'Kar, Babylon 5

G'Kar was a hottie, wasn't he? I had a crush on him for a while, and then when he found the "path"...oooh boy. His character became practically irresistible!
That is one of the most profound sentences ever spoken on television IMHO. It is truly a statement to remember, a statement to live by. Work with the truth of the Universe...and you will find true happiness. Expect the Universe to give you things, only because you are you...and you are in for grave disappointments.

heh ya I can dig it. I dunno, I try to just live my life according to however I feel and the tenets of the Church of Universal Affirmation (not-quite-Christian). Some of those that really stick to me are "Do no harm, to yourself or others" "It's not your place to judge other people" "Try to learn from every experience" "Don't be a dick" "All beings have their own intrinsic worth that we need to respect" "Shit happens, deal with it" "Don't expect miracles" and "Deliverance is subjective"
Back to G'kar haha remember the one in season one when he was in bed with no shirt? Or the one where he was in like a loose bath robe? *shudder*

Anyway, seriously, I actually ***DO*** live by that sentence. I remember it constantly and it brings me much inner peace, along with the other functional systems of my superego. On rather a side note, a tie-in to that phrase is contained in this:

See second phrase. If you hook it up with "The Jet Set", from the same album (can't find an online version of the song to play for you but you can Google the lyrics), you get a fantastic anti-materistic phraseology to remember every time you walk into a mall.
"See everything you ever dreamed that you could want, but nothing that you need" indeed.

Yeah, that's a pretty shitty thing to do... I still have to wonder what would make Alex do it. There's prank-playing, and then there's going out of your way to be ultra-vindictive, and you only do the latter when you have a specific reason to HATE someone. However hurt Venti feels about Alex in general, it seems like the feeling may be mutual coming from the other side.
