"Yeah, Venti, business is slow today," Art said. He was taking his lunch break outside while on the phone with the jackal. "I think my coworker wants to go home early, it's that dead."
"I heard they're going to close another two-hundred Frappuchinos nationwide," Venti said.
"Not good."
"No, not good at all. Maybe you should update your resume."
Art sighed. "Yeah, maybe I should, or maybe I should go back to school and get my Masters."
"That might be a good idea," Venti said, and for a moment Art could imagine those strong arms of the jackal embracing him. He shivered. "Maybe the economy will get better and then you'll graduate and find yourself in high demand."
"I'll think about it, I promise."
"That's my lion. I got to get ready for work, so I'll see you after I get off work, deal?"
"Deal." They exchanged goodbyes, and Art put his cellphone in his pocket when he heard a voice behind him.
"You're Venti's boyfriend?"
Art turned around, facing a kangaroo. It took him a few seconds to realize this was the very same roo he overheard flirting with Venti at the library a week ago. "Yes I am." He might as well try to be friendly, and extended a paw. The roo took it, surprising him. He somehow expected a completely different reaction.
"You're hot," the roo said. "I'm Rooibos."
Art arched an eyebrow. "Rooibos?"
A giggle escaped the roo's muzzle, which sounded very odd. He was a few inches taller than Art, the bangs of his headfur obscuring the left side of his face. "Yeah! It's a plant they use to make a tea. Isn't that just chill?"
"Uhm...yeah."
"You're so lucky to have someone like Venti. He's hot. How'd you two get together?"
Art felt unease twist at his stomach. "I used to work with him, and I asked him out."
"Aw, wow. That's so wild! I wish I could be brave enough to ask someone out like that." The roo giggled again, scuffling the ground with his large footpaws. "But I'm too shy."
"Well, maybe that'll change."
"Thanks! I have to go, nice meeting you!"
Huh, that was...surreal, Art thought.

*Cough* It was a bad joke. A play on bangs covering one side of both Trowa's and Rooibos' faces... And the fact that fangirls often twist a character's default personality for their own evil purposes, with Trowa being taciturn and serious in the series, but Fangirl Trowa (and Rooibos) being giggly and up-front.
Huh, interesting development? This guy sound sweet and (hopefully) respectful of Art & Venti's relationship. Too bad he's not an otter for our fave giant southern otter ;) I'm never sure what to make of experiences like that, really...
Funny, I'm kinda in the same boat art Art regarding grad school. Something someone told me was that one reason to consider grad school is to try to wait out the economy. I mean grad school almost always pays for itself...and if it doesn't, don't go to that school! lol
