However, they can quickly and repeatedly grind together a pair of rough, ridged tendrils inside their throats, which creates a harsh buzzing sound as an alert signal, or as a way of indicating their location to others.
It takes a lot of training to form specific sounds this way, but Yannit was quite obsessed with the idea, and has learned how to "speak" this way.

Well, to be honest there's really nothing wrong with watching people sleeping in the first place, but what really makes it wrong is if you're an uninvited stranger watching them sleep before they're aware you're here in the first place or watching them sleep for more than 2 hours i.e. all night.
I mean, you see a big lady worrying about her crush-turned-ratbird all night until she collapses into a makeshift bed in exhaustion, a bug person get into the bed as well, and the big lady reflexively starts cuddling her? I'd stick around to see what happens when she wakes up, that's for sure, and I'm not even in charge of documenting the behaviors of local nonhuman species.
Okay, not one person has called out Yannit for being a pervert as well. Yannit did not respect Isher's personal space, and OMG, was she WATCHING Isher all night long?!?With all due respect, Ran did the exact same thing from a respectable distance, and this kind of behavior is expected from both of them, but C'MON people!
Although now that I think about it, this is about the same as waking up to find one or more yinglets in your bed as well, although you'd probably wake up to random yinglet parts in your face.

I feel like Isher's thumb claws are... very large, no doubt for some evolutionary benefit, yet the thumb it's self, doesn't seem... "beefy" enough to really support this. a lobster's claws are bulky, and as such the "arm" that connects it to the body is MUCH bigger and bulkier than the legs for walking. see what I'm getting at? you do a GREAT job of the creature's making sense, and offering some reasonable justifications for how it came to be. I just want to help with something that might have been a bit of an oversight, or... just as likely, you DO have a good reason, and I just don't know what it is.

Yep! Isher's nonhuman parent species have features more complimentary to those parts, like much more prominent "thumb" digits. Being halfway between two forms causes some awkwardness, and she's really sensitive about how her toe "thumbs" don't really serve a purpose on either the human (all toes on the ground) or nonhuman side of things. They're just kinda sticking out in the middle, being useless.
