"So what'd you do?" Otis asked as he rinsed the shampoo off his fur.
"I counted to ten, and apologized to Art for being such a selfish jerk, of course." Venti pulled out the tanktop from his locker, put it on and sat down on the bench, ignoring the creak of the wood under his weight.
"Wow. Good job, dude. I almost expected you to say you lost your temper and stormed out of the apartment," Otis replied as he wrapped a towel around his middle and headed to the fur dryers.
"Gee, thanks for having such a high opinion of me," Venti said flatly.
Otis stood in the center of the fur dryer, and raised his arms over his head as the jets on either side of him blasted hot air. "Can the sarcasm, dude. You got a bad temper sometimes when things don't go your way."
Venti grumbled something, but the otter couldn't hear it over the noise of the fur dryer. "What was that?" the otter asked.
"I hate it when you're right sometimes," Venti shouted, a little too loudly. "But shouldn't I get some credit for keeping my temper?"
"Maybe when you keep on holdin' back your ego, then yeah."
Venti reflexively stood up after he heard that, ears pointing straight up, hands balled into fists. "Excuse you?"
"No excuse for me, bud, and don't think standin' up's gonna intimidate me." The otter flashed Venti a mischievous grin. "I can wrassle ya down on the mat, and you know it."
Venti grunted, but relaxed his fists. "OK, sometimes my ego gets in the way of things."
"Everyone's got an ego 'bout somethin'," Otis said. "Mine's how much sushi I can eat. Yours is you wantin' everyone to fawn all over you."
"That's not entirely true." Venti sat down again. One, two, three, four...
"Yeah, you're right. I'm sorry I said that." Otis turned off the fur dryer and sat down next to Venti. "You love your friends, and you feel like Singa's gonna spend less time with you now."
Venti gave Otis a surprised look. "How'd you get to be so smart?"
"I come from a big family. Drama central."

Larger families that interact and talk with one another or fight even lead to hypersensitive minds immediately picking up on cues and matching two things together that are relatively far apart with imagination.
Imagination, or shifting our perspectives as many prefer to call it (Imagination sounds childish? I hope not!) lead to problem identification and solving.
On the other hand no one is going to reward Venti for just a few restraints. If he wants to change his character, he needs to get into the habit of holding himself back enough so he doesn't think about it anymore. His large ego is easily deflatable, and his defense mechanisms show how insecure he is about himself, like an inner paranoia for approval.

Yay talking with people who know you too well. My best friend here at college fights me over what I will do when (like if I would rush and move out of the dorm today or wait until tommarrow...im now waiting, just like she said, damn you tokala!) and sometimes you just need to hear things how they are. So what if you have flaws if you live with them and try to overcome them (like Venti cooling his temper) then you are being the best person you can be. Love the writing as always Greg!
