Think about it this way. You want to get rid of the only thing in your life that bothers you. And by trying that, you destroy everything BUT the target. Which means, the only thing that's left is the thing that bothered you.
I won't even think about the possibility of his mental state not being destroyed because of that.

I've been falling behind on this comic a ton. But from what I've seen, things are pretty intense. This page seems no different. I need to catch up!

That's not good. Now he knows everyone he wanted to survive he killed, and the only one he didn't made it out. Not to mention his love died to make that happen.

After all those injuries, I guess Jack blames Gem for ruining his life. He refuses to accept that he is his own worst enemy. He really doesn't deserve Souffle's love and compassion.

But, that's what family is for, to help and support, no matter what happens. Here's a thought though. Twins usually have tyre sms kind of mindset. Is Souffle able to develop the sms kind of anger that Jack has?

So...that was Jack at the hospital...he's was off his rocker, mad as a hatter, "all 6's and 7's", (you get the point; crazy).

hm no witnesses eh? Well there is one witness who could put Jack away for good and it's his own daughter Gem.

Most likely inadmissible, she was only a year old, and her only knowledge comes from dreams or hallucinations.

Not exactly what a prosecutor would call reliable evidence.

However, this does bring up an interesting question. Gemma was going to prosecute a Mr. Murdoch, who would appear to be Jack. What was she going to prosecute him for? This trial would have been thirty some years after the events in her childhood. Why would a trial be delayed that long? Was it a trial for something else?

It all just raises further questions. Was it jack in the courtroom? Was Gem merely dreaming when she saw him in her hospital room, or could he actually have been there? Or both, you know like when someone is speaking to you in your sleep and it feeds into the dream.

It could have taken him that long to be declared fit for trial maybe? It's mentioned that his mental state began to deteriorate during recovery. Perhaps this would explain why he (possibly) was still in the same psych ward, and why souffle happened to work there. Perhaps attempting to keep some sort of watchful eye on his mad dog sibling. It's a stretch, but that's my best guess.

I wonder that too. I've always thought that trial would be significant and very personal to Gem ever since that dream scene. When she broke down, that proved it more.
I believe this is where the "You can still help us." is leading up to. Maybe Gem's brothers are trapped as ghosts until retribution can be done on their father. It's up to Gem to find a way to prove Mr. Murdoch guilty in whatever the trial is about. perhaps once he's in prison, they are all free. And if Gem can't do it, then it will be up to Paul. This is just the theory I've been hanging onto for a while.

He killed everyone except the child he wanted dead, and now he has to live with it. I hope it torments him for the rest of his miserable life.

Of course, if Jack is trying to kill Gem, it begs the question: Is he doing it out of hatred, or love? (i.e. He's trying to make it up to her by "reuniting" her with her mother.)

Hate. Gem reminds him of the betrayal of his brother. He was trying to kill both the wife and the daughter. He only half succeeded, but also lost the remainder.She survived, they died. His plan failed.

That seemed to be his line of thinking back then, but if Souffle's comment about Jack's mental state is anything to go by, that line of thinking has probably become a lot more...crooked...since then (especially if he's been stewing in that madness for the past 30 years).

So...he tried to kill Gem, and instead killed everyone else BUT Gem? That's a backfire if I've ever seen one, especially since he loved the boys.

Hold it if that trial was Jack's why'd it take so long to prosecute him unless he was recently caught after all these years though he should've been caught sooner if Souffle wasn't a spineless coward, Jack maybe his brother but he knew what was going on with Gem's family and should've known that Jack was the one who caused the fire

If it really is him, then the answer is likely that it just took that long for him to reach a point were he could be considered mentally fit to stand trial.
