Here's a tip for reducing camera lens distortions when photographing something flat: zoom in from a distance rather than using a wider angle up close. The light rays going into the camera are closer to parallel with a narrower field of view.

very nicely done. another good tip is instead of trying to encase his form, drawing an outline or not lifting the pencil as you draw his fur, use short and direct strokes of the pencil to capture the fur and the fuzziness without letting it seem to enclosed.
