Oh, besides drawing my next pasttime is games. I'v ebeen head-over heels about the Monster Hunter series. I had just gotten a PSP a few weeks ago and have been playing and the meaner the monster, the more I'm thrilled to draw them. These are considered doodles, too. Their only about 5" max in size. More is in evitable.
Time for more Strategies with Grimmie! Tonight's episode: Khezu.
Khezu are hard hitters, and have a tendency to inflict paralysis with their attacks, which leads to deadly combos. As far as attack patterns go, Khezu have a 5 or 6 different attacks, depending on how you count. First, is a stationary body-electric field. Damaging, high knockback, but a bit slow to get off. Easily evaded by backing off when he starts to kneel and plant his tail. Next, are two bites, one straight forward, the other that hooks over on a diagonal. Again, a simple matter of not being in the way at the wrong time. Third, is a leaping tackle. you'll see him rear back and start to cry before jumping, and it can be evaded by rolling either to the side, or directly toward him and thus, out of the landing zone. Note that when Khezu is enraged, this attack will also have a body-electric field, and do far more damage. Fourth, is a scream. Loud, debilitating, it doesn't do any damage on it's own, but it'll hold you in place plenty long to get nailed by something nasty. Best bet is to block with a shield, or use the Hi Power Earplug skill. If you can't do either, then you might make it out with a running leap, or at least try to keep behind him, as he turns slowly. Next, is a simple turning tailswipe. Very short range, not very damaging, not much to worry about. Lastly, is his ranged attack, the triple lightning ball. He'll plant his tail, rear back his head, then lean forward and spit out a trio of ball lightnings which travel along the ground in an expanding cone, and anything in that cone will be hit. Highly damaging, and paralysis inducing, this is the main reason one does not stand in front of Khezu.
As for beating the thing? Kill it with fire. The trick is to either be very fast, or very much out of the way, meaning anything except hammer, hunting horn, and Greatsword will work pretty well. With faster weapons (Sword & shield, Dual Sword, and Longsword), use hit and run tactics. Get in there, do a bit of damage, then back off before the body-field can zap you something fierce. With longer weapons like lance and gunlance, one can easily "tank" Khezu, by keeping a moderate distance to one side and continually poking... the shield can easily block anything except the lightning shot, and the lance is just long enough to get a couple pokes in through the body-field. Aim for the legs, and you can keep knocking him down again and again. Easier still are bow and bowgun. Best choices here (at your apparent level) are the Kut-ku bow, and Melnyx Ragdoll. Anything with Fire element capability will work nicely. When using cluster shot, aim for the spine above the wings for maximum damage.
Another item of particular note is that Khezu happens to be very susceptible to poison, so it's a viable alternative to fire in a pinch.
Khezu can be "broken". Focus enough attention on it's spine and head, and eventually a number of pink scars will appear on its back. These don't affect how it fights, but you will get extra rewards once the battle is over.
Khezu are an important monster, because parts from it are vital for items like Mega Demondrug, and weapons like True Devil Slicer (one of the best Longswords in the game). Also, Khezu armor is excellent for the starting hunter, because it can offer Skills like Rec Speed up, Wide area (which makes any healing items you use also affect teammates within a certain radius), and Detect/Autotracker (with the proper gems).
There are also Red Khezu... same basic principles, but they tend to hit a bit harder, spit acid on occasion, bite more often, and are weak to water, not fire.

Heh, I always have killed it with a greatsword- it may not be suggestible but you can beat the crap out of it without taking hits yourself very often if you really work at it. You can even land a hit with the very end of the sword when it's doing the electric thing, and time it for the end of it to continue with a combo as it gets back up.
Oh, one more thing: Khezu, being blind, is immune to flash bombs. I've tried sonic and dung bombs, but neither seems to have any appreciable effect Furthermore, since Khezu is blind, it cannot "spot" you, so you will not get any sort of battle music, nor the little yellow "eye" alert. You can and will hear it start to sniff around though, and it'll track you rather well. It's blind, but not stupid.
I showed my coworker the ecology video and the expression on his face was priceless.
It reminds me of the creatures in the newer King Kong at the bottom of the canyon with all the giagantic bugs. Though it coulda been the producers stealing the Khezu concept. . . . . sub-conscious-ly.

N'aw. C: Everyone's gotta start somewhere! I was Hunter Rank 1 only a little bit ago, but thanks to my team of equally-as-retarded-as-myself friends, and a ton of ridiculous adventures, I'm up to HR6. :3 It just takes practice!
It's an addicting game, though, isn't it? x'D
