Minotaurs of the Breton Isles (Clothed)
The primary non-human, non-Fae residents of the cold and foreboding Breton Isles are the powerful Minotaurs. Known among their own kind simply as The People Of Home, the Minotaurs are a rustic, earthy race with a strong connection to their environment and their ancestry.
Of particular note is a most curious, if somewhat unsettling, form of ancestor worship common to their tribes: Minotaurs tend to skin and tan their own dead, using their leather for clothing, household uses, tools and other regular purposes. Some races find this distasteful, but the Minotaurs believe it is more disrespectful not to let their kin contribute to their village life postmortem.
The Minotaurs frequently shun visitors and outsiders, preferring to keep their own company within their tribal lands. Visitors that do get a chance to enter the Minotaur territory often find themselves at a loss, mostly because Minotaurs are over nine and a half feet tall on average, and normal-sized races below the seven foot threshold find their communities a bit daunting to get around. Mostly made of tents and large wooden huts, Minotaurs build tiered hill communities behind sturdy wood and clay walls. Often the walls extend well beyond the village itself, giving room for farm crops and livestock grazing. This can be troublesome if an outsider should stumble into their lands unannounced, as they may find themselves the focus of aggression.
Minotaur Warriors are notorious for their ferocity and strength, with the deadliest being a cult of Death Priests known as the Ash-Eaters. Ash-Eaters wear white bone ash, that of their own dead, as a for of full-body paint, and forego clothing at all times. Their weapons of choice are chain-bonded crescent blades, or Sheks, which they use as a combination of hand axe and bladed flail, capable of lashing at enemies ten to fifteen yards away with shocking force and accuracy. Ash-Eaters are considered elites among Minotaur tribes, a mixture of guardian and priest all in one.
Minotaur society is controlled by a Chieftain, or sometimes a Shaman depending on how religious the particular enclave is. Gender equality is fairly common place, with men and women capable of handling all matters of their society equally. Women still have a preference for home duties, while Men are often the ones who patrol for dangers, hunt and trade. Minotaurs have one to three children at a time, and have no mating season to speed of. Breeding is frequent, and though not as openly sexual as Trolls they do little to hide their endeavors.
