One of the major things to remember about Goblins is that they tend to like showing off. If not their jewelry, then their clothes, if not their clothes, then their hair. And if not their hair...Well, that's where pets come in. Though not as closely bonded to their animals as their Troll cousins, the average Goblin does have a propensity for adopting one or more animals over time. The most common pets are birds, reptiles and canines, with the absolute favorite being the rugged, somewhat shaggy beasts known as Vexhounds.
Vexhounds are much like Goblins themselves: Bombasti, energetic, loud and curious. They make wonderful tracking dogs, as well as great guard animals. Though not naturally mean in nature they can be very well trained to bite and hold trespassers until told otherwise.
It's not uncommon to see a dozen or more such animals being walked on any given trip through a Goblin community, and quite frequently you'll see Goblins walking two or three of the animals all at once.

Think they'd go so far as to walk bigger, bolder, rarer pets, as a means of showing off their wealth and control? Nothing says "fuck offa my property" quite like an imported maned sabrecat, or a domesticated Kermode bear, especially if either one seems submissive to their tiny master.
