Very nice design, first painted drum I've seen on FA so far.
I'm working on a painted drum commission myself but it's one that's to be played so I need to protect the paint. Do you know what I might use to protect the paint that won't affect the skin (goat skin, non-hairy) adversely?

Thankfully, the customer is a close relative and they offered the commission as a chance for me to do something experimental for them (at a reduced rate, naturally). I was concerned that an acrylic varnish might affect the skin since they do react somewhat to the humidity in the air and didn't want something that would prevent that or make the drum sound odd. That said, since I've used a tough acrylic paint an acrylic varnish does make sense, I'll see if I can re-find the satin spray I got a few years ago since it's a nice, natural looking finish.
I use liquid acrylic paint sealed with a fixative. Leather dye does work but tends to bleed and is very difficult to 'paint' with if you want a sharp design. I've never had trouble with paint flaking - a good quality liquid acrylic doesnt leave enough layer to flake and with a fixative is very durable.
