Have I mentioned yet how much I love this new guitar? I've had it barely two weeks and already worn out a set of strings, just replaced them. I'm also really loving these DR Black Beauty strings. They are a coated string but feel like a metal string and they have a brightness that is just gorgeous.
I really can't say enough good things about this guitar. Carbon Fiber is just amazing in terms of resonance, strength, and stability. The strings are 13s. There's no truss rod, no adjustments to make because the neck and body are a single piece and it's made of carbon fiber and is stronger than a steel truss. I've been to the beach a few times, played in heavy fog and salt spray coming up off the cliffs. The strings got sticky but a little fast fret and leaving the guitar sitting in the sun for a bit and they cleaned right up. The guitar itself is totally unphased. It doesn't change tuning, never feels muddy and dark. For all it's blackness, it is the brightest little guitar I've ever played.
It's just so small and light and the action is so low, the neck profile is thin and super super fast. It is just amazing. I am going to chew through strings though. Both because I can't put it down, and because, while I've heard in the past that strings make a big difference in tone, I never experienced it before this guitar. The material is so hard and resonant that I can hear a HUGE difference in tone. In fact, this is actually my 3rd set of strings. After I played through the first pack of Black Beauties, I stuck some old Elixir Nanoweb 12s on and aside from not looking as cool, they were, by contrast so thuddy and broody sounding that they couldn't compare at all. The moment I got new BBs I stripped them off and restored guitar to beautiful black on black.
Kitty is also sporting some weird strings. Cobalt. They have a weird rough-but-not-rough texture to them and a really lovely bite and growl.

This one is Composite Acoustics and I really love it. Rainsong also makes some really pretty CF guitars. Blackbird's CF guitar is also really neat in that the neck is hollow and it has a second sound-hole in the head, giving it a really interesting sound. The only CF bass I'm aware of is by New Journey. Just came out, our local shop expects to have one before June. I've got to play the guitar they offer and it is pretty solid. Both of the Journey one are a bit heavier because they are designed to have the neck easily removed so the guitar folds up into a smaller space for travel. Last CF brand I know of is McPhearson but I didn't get to play any of those locally and they were considerably more expensive.
