A fresco and a mosaic in Herculaneum, which is the town on the other side of Vesuvius from Pompeii. Later photos will actually show this, but the town of Herculaneum was buried under something on the order of 30 meters of mud and lava, which means it wasn't discovered until much later than Pompeii. It's much less well-known and is far better preserved, so it's quite nice, and there aren't any real crowds for much of it. We spent about 4 or 5 hours there and could have spent longer, as there's ongoing excavation. This photo is really just to show off the incredible preservation of color that was buried almost 2000 years ago. Angle's a little off, but, well, it's what I have.
