Redwall Movement 7: Night Comes Soft (A Mossflower Lullaby)
<<< PREV | FIRST | NEXT >>>
We have a twofer today! One important aspect of the Redwall series is the presence of the young children in the abbey and throughout Mossflower Wood. This piece is meant to speak to the Redwallers' care for all the creatures of Mossflower. The title, as well as the general meter of the song, comes from a lullaby sung to the little ones in the novel The Long Patrol, but feels appropriate to any similar time throughout the series:
Night comes soft,'tis daylight's end, / Sleep creeping gently o'er all, / bees go to hive, birds fly to nest / whilst pale moonshadows fall. / ... / Safe dreams, peace unto you, my friend / Night comes soft, 'tis daylight's end.
This was always one of my favorite parts of the series, and I feel like it captures the tender side of the Redwallers quite well.
Sound samples used:
EWQL Hollywood Orchestra Gold
Mixed in Reaper v. 5.34.
