The pelicans take turns knocking each other off of posts. Soon the newcomer will be knocked off in turn. I pay no attention to this, here I am worrying about the fall of Constantinople and what I would have done if I had been Emperor.

Why does that video make me think of this one? When my brother ordered the video online a few years back, creator Sally Cruikshank kept him chatting online for quite a while -- almost an hour. The guy who just doesn't talk!
Something similar happened to me on Shary Flenniken's site a few months later, but I think I repeat myself.

Now you might find this amusing. My brother, Steve, is a very accomplished artist who has actually been paid for his work and is still waiting for the check in most cases. He does not approve of my furry bent but that is his cross to bear. He is a correspondent with Bobby London, who apparently has too much time on his hands. They were yelling at each other over politics, with Bobby being a rabid liberal, huge surprise there, and my brother all for high explosives deployed immediately in the middle east and certain college campuses, forcefully and somewhat indiscriminate in targeting. Bobby was screaming at my brother about people stealing from him, and my brother asked Bobby if that was like stealing from Bud Segar. This was throwing gas on a fire, with dozens of onlookers jumping in with epithets and abuse, all directed at Steve. Last night they made up and talked for quite a while. My advice to my brother was to tell "Bob" that Shary Flenniken was a far better artist with far better legs. I don't think he used this. I have not heard from you about Shary but I am all ears.
Well, that blows my story away, anyway.
I went on Shary Flenniken's site a few years bak (I was a big Trots and Bonnie fan back in the day) and was poking around a little. Suddenly, a little window popped open and two tiny cartoon eyes appeared. A little banner scrolled something like "Shary is watching you," and asked my name. A chat box made itself available and we discussed comics from the 1970s of which my Mom would not approve and what we were working on currently. Her current websites do not seem to be so equipped,

How cool is that? I never heard of it or Sally, but the first underground I bought in 1973 (in Austin) was a Kim Deitch. He is like a cartoonist God! I am glad to see that Ms. Cruikshank's hard work is much appreciated. I am annoyed that I did not hear of this back in the day. I went to every film festival and midnight movie in Dallas I could.
My earliest recollection of the products of the Deitch family were Gerald McBoing-Boing and Tom Terrific, created by Kim's father Gene Deitch, still alive at 92,
My oldest brother and I went to an animation festival in Willimantic, Connecticut in 1973. I walked away... a changed man. There were people working on material the likes of which I had never dreamed. E.g., this tender and, indeed, memorable piece.
