Here's a preview of an illustration I'll have in the sexy anthology book Sofawolf's putting together, titled "X" I believe. Not gonna say much else about this lest I spoil the story, but the Dalmatian is a cyborg, which is why his eyes appear to be lifeless and vacant. Look out for it at Anthrocon 2009!

Wow... for two full seconds i saw this picture and was all WFT!? What happened to owen?? XD
Big accident or something... or halloween? Nope! Just a mechanical CLONE!!!
Or not. just a cyborg. but still, he looks awesome! I really love the vacant eyes... If you told me that you'd draw something with 'vacant' eyes, i would have wondered how you'd pull it off. Now i know. <3

I would've thought so. That expression on his face conveys some sort of childlike curiousity oblivious to any harm, while the expression on the other seems to be aware of something that seems to have him worried.
"Are you going to do a check up on me, Jonas?"
"Yes, Fenn, I am."
"Why so soon?"
"Um... er... I thought I'd just get at out of the way... you know, so I don't have to worry about forgetting it."
I'm imagining the conversation is something along those lines.

looking in at the expression at the other character i either see fear or some type of hesitation, like he never did what hes about to do before. .. the dalmatian may have asked him to do something, possibly something like feel feelings or something along those lines. . .. doubtfull he wants to be full cyborg
Glad for the explanation on the eyes, I was thinking he just seemed a bit overly intrigued by the glove. Then again, dalmatians tend to be overly intrigued by such things normally. I absolutely LOVE the expression on their faces, and the simplicity of the metal parts. A lot of people would have had a tendency to over-complicate things like those. I think the mostly plain metal plates work excellently for this picture, and I'm assuming the rest of the pictures as well.
not to be nit-picky... but a cyborg is mostly living being -in particular the brain- with prosthetic body parts... even if the whole body is mechanical what makes one a cyborg is the presents of an organic brain.
i'm sure this is what you meant, judging from the dalmatian's body... but my nerd-flex just kinda went off with the reasoning as to why the eyes are vacant.
if he DOES have a mechanical then he's technically an android... again, sorry for the nerd-flex ((i can't believe i'm even posting this))

I disagree. 'Cyborg' is an abbreviation of 'cybernetic organism', which denominates any being that consists of both cybernetic and organic components, no matter what these components might be specifically.
The Terminator is just as much a cyborg as RoboCop.
By the way: An android is an entirely mechanical being in the shape of a man.
Also: Correct an error, create a new one in the process. Welcome to the world of software.

lord i know what you mean about the error correction thing, man X_X but that aside
i'm mostly basing my definition on what i've seen in most sci-fi stuff.... robocop is a cyborg, yes, but i've always heard the terminators (at least the T-600, T-800, ect) called androids.... also a bit of mixing of terminology from different universes... the borg from startreck is obviously derived from "cyborg" and droid in starwars is obviously derived from "android"... so with all that i kinda came to my previous opinion *shrugs* but hey, opinions are opinions. don' wanna start any drama or anything, just defending my side.

Opinions are opinions, that much is for sure. But definitions are definitions.
T-600s are androids, because they are entirely mechanical (their covering is made of rubber, not skin).
The T-800 in Terminator 2 says himself that he is a cybernetic organism.
Now, one might argue that a true cyborg is defined by the condition that both its biological and technological components are necessary for it to function, as described in Star Trek 8. With that in mind, a T-800 might be considered an android, because its skin only serves for covering/camouflage and sensory input, and the machine underneath is still functional without it, as seen in Terminator 1 and The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
As for Star Wars droids: George Lucas is dumb.

Yes, I'm also having a hard time coming up with good non-invasive connection methods for my character's artificial limbs. I solve Muscle attachment with external mount-points (a vest to be specific), but I still have no enlightening idea for structural support (for the legs in particular) that doesn't either limit movement, or is far too bulky, or strains the stumps too much.
I'm trying to keep them semi-realistic as far as technology goes. I want them to be removable and non-invasive (safe for the neural interfaces, which are implants attached to the severed nerves), because invasive connections are basically permanently open wounds, and prone to infection (I guess avoiding those is what you mean by 'sealing').
They are heavy-duty prosthetics, designed for long-term usage in extreme environments without technical/medical support available. I can't afford them to have a weak spot like that.
Yours look lovely though. Watching you for inspirational purposes.

Art's looking sassy as always. The body language is showing a lot.
I find it somewhat upsetting that people see robotic arms and instantly think DURHURR FMA when this obviously has nothing to do with it. The styles of robotics aren't even similar. Think outside of the mediocre anime box, people.

Jesus Christ! Forgive my taking the lord's name in vain, but given the circumstances I believe I'm in theme...
When I first heard about this I was kinda unsure. But now, I absolutely MUST buy it.... And seriously? I'm willing to bet this story in particular will make me cry.

I can't help love the daly in this, even without the other character, everything is told from his expression. Slight Full Metal Alch. feel to it, but that's me pulling from the first ref I could think of when seeing it. I see a "You complete me" look from the daly, pun intended. <3

i see a a very saddening/sobering/interesting story in here....
*from what i see in comments and picture...* Jonas looks like something happened during a war/conflict, and was badly injured. His lover/friend, overreacted and had a "I tried to save you, but you're not the same", kind of thing happen. (depending on who the main character is) now Fenn is conflicted on whether to cherish Jonas' survival, or to feel bad that he's not the same person. he's also probably taking heat from the media/government. Deep inside, i think Fenn cares enough to do something about it for as long as he lives, which is what might make the story move along.
this particular part looks like Fenn's first moments after "Rebuilding" Jonas, and is nervous when Jonas starts asking fundamentally childish questions, but is also happy that his friend/lover is back, and needs to run some tests on physical and mental recovery.
(did i get the names in the right place?)
this is the kind of story i fall in love with...
