Mostly the rental string at a(then) local stables in the eastern part of the San Francisco bay Area. Oh I was lucky and got even tempered plodde4rs like the late, beloved Mongo, opr Patton. but a couple were kind of like put upon Starbucks baristas in that they were not interested in doing anything other than going in a straight line. Others were victims of wrinkles in the saddle blankets (not my fault).
All hail google the finder of information if not always the truth. this is an exert from the USEF rules as I understand it. I expect the reason that mules are excluded is because the bulk of the high-end shows are breeding prospects. However, that's more guess than knowledge. The googling of mule dressage was interesting though and from some of what I read, it may become more of a thing in time. Or not, dedicated 'horse' people can be very set in their ways. Come to think of that given how stubborn mules are maybe that's the issue, to much head butting.

a. Mules are also eligible to compete in dressage classes with the exception of

Spot on. Imperial mules, bred in the agrarian centers of the (mostly human) Empire, have little experience with Lupines, especially barbarians. There are plenty of YouTube videos of donkeys chasing dogs, and killing coyotes and foxes. Also Asheru has never confronted an animal this large without her family around.
