This is a piece i did, asking Red for a favor. Red ©1999 Nami Jarrett. Tumansky and the juvenile Jaggiri ©1999 Scott A. H. Ruggels
[Originally posted to Yerf, June 29, 1999. An alphabetically enforced break from Asheru for a bit. Nami Jarret was, at the time a college student, studying illustration, and became a member of Yerf, and Huzzah! However disgusted by the fandom and it's creepiness, she turned pro, and never was seen again. Some may have seen two chapters of a story she did featuring this character in early issues of Furrlough, as well,]

Why was Jarrett called a nazi? Therein lies a tale...
The mid-to-late nineties was the intersection of two unfortunate points in furry history: the height of the alt-lifestyle creepiness and the fact that the media was starting to notice the community. A handful of writers, artists, critics and demagogues (including myself and Ms. Jarrett) who saw the direction the fandom was going in and didn't like it banded together and basically said "Yo, we're not telling you how to live your life, but your antics are damaging the community you claim to be a part of. Don't you think you could rein it in?" Of course, how DARE we ask the furry fandom to show some self-restraint, so the lot of us were called everything from homophobes to (you guessed it) Nazis, with a follow up of 'If you don't like it, you can leave!'
Neither Ms Jarrett or myself liked it, so we left.
And now 'furry' is listed on multiple dating sites as a sex fetish.

Interesting. And unfortunate.
You've stuck it out, you're here.
Red just up and vanished entirely and utterly. Also she probably did what she could to disassociate her professional image and her illustration/commission image, which required (for her) a total disassociation. Not only the asshats from within, but the close minded world outside who get a whif of someone being 'furry' and turning on them like rabid dogs (which happened to me - 15 year career washed down the shitter).

pretty much. I limited, and still limit my contact somewhat for professional reasons, especially after the Steve Martin Interview at Warner's Animation, which alerted the industry to Furry, and "Quozl" Faulk's creeping on Bab;'s Bunny's Voice Actress. Then animation staff would cruise the internet looking for visual road kill, for shits and giggles around the studio, and sending anything actionable up to Corporate Legal to stomp on. I worked in a game Studio at the time and among my fellow artists, "trolling Furries" for the Lulz" was a common after work pass time.
Well, sex will always be a big part of the furry world, and the word "creepy" is highly perspective-oriented. Everyone has their own comfort levels.
On the other hand, baselessly making accusations because you see things differently, like calling someone a nazi as indicated in the comments, is inexcusable.
Also, enthusiastic Jaggiri FTW.
