It's a quiet day at work, (finally) and I had to bite my cheek to keep from smiling as I was finishing this story up. I am pleased to say that it is a love story with just a touch of eros and humor. It gives us something to think about when it comes to the movies we now watch for our entertainment. How much is real and how much might actually 'just' be computer magic?
Computer magic can't even hold a candle to your own imagination.

Reminds me of Stranger than Fiction. Or better yet, Hatsune Miku. (I'm surrounded by huge fans of Japanese culture. It rubs off a bit.)
I will also agree that imagination trumps computer magic. Fantasies might not be as visually vivid and 'solid', but they they contain far more depth. Besides, someone had to imagine the concept before they designed it. ...Until computers start creating things themselves. ;)

Ah, good old Alan Dean Foster, he comes up with some pretty peculiar stuff.
Which is not too far off from how I would describe this tale, Vixyy. I can only describe it as romance equivalent to the 'Nothing is Scarier' trope (I guess this version would be called Nothing is Sexier?). I say that because of how you left good deal of room for the mind of the reader to fill in the blank and it works wonderfully.
Save for the the switched names on the first page, but I didn't catch that the first time I read it and it doesn't hurt the piece much.
Another thing - and I'm not sure if anyone else has thought the same thing - but Maudlin's suggestions to Reeko (of her being born from a wish) could be taken as her being a tulpa - an entity created in the mind, acting independently of, and parallel to one's own consciousness.

A couple of things:
First and foremost - where can I find these DVDs? I NEED THEM!!!
Second - I really liked how visceral this was. Maudlin's mentioning of how keen her sense of smell is strikes me as very realistic. And you repeatedly mention Reeko's sensations as she touches him with her fur, her claws. He tells the readers in thinly veiled terms that he has... erm... certain repressed ideas about her and what she represents. I'm sure it's natural for visitors on FA but you managed to tap into what I believe is a very common fantasy among the site's user base. Even those folks who don't know what 'furry' is might still wish for a more meaningful relationship with their animal friends.
And the last thing I want to mention was how on target Maudlin's description of how we each get one wish in our lifetime. That she frames it as a childhood event, hinging on some small thing that quickly comes and goes because of the quicksilver emotional state of young children, rings devastatingly true to me. She implies that the more complex wishes of an adult will seldom if ever come true and that she fits into that category. Brilliant writing, I must say.
*bows deeply* For a slow-workday toss-off, this is some highly insightful work. Thank you for sharing with us.

What a gloomy, Maudlin story...
Cool setup, and the end rolled up as inevitable as a Juggernaut, but I never saw it coming. I kept going back and rereading the first couple pages, thinking I'd missed something, then it hit me like a fish in the face. Or an enthusiastic (hungry) dog's tongue.
I like the way you squared off with the Human/Fur relationship question and shot it point blank. In my larger story arc, of which the Syd and Sy stories are a part (yes, there's another one comiing) and the Fur World bits I've already posted touched on this, but you brought up all the main social points and knocked them down.
Brief, bright and powerful.

I know that feeling well. The stuff I've been writing lately has been leaving me tired, if productive.
I zoned out while writing a piece years ago. When I came to, there was half a chapter I hadn't even thought about, and a new set of concepts that changed the whole course of the novel.

Not everything is sexual... but I do believe we should try meeting the animals at least half-way. Instead of trying to make them understand our language, try to understand theirs. They raise their behinds as a way of expressing what they feel. When your loved one comes along and rubs your shoulders, what do you do (non-verbally)?
