The heat of the afternoon sun was making it's presence known. Orange spears of warmth and light began beaming through the thin leafy blanket of the roof that made up the room of the meeting place. The deep green vines wrapped around the tall marble columns of the small ancient structure like the arms of a enormous octopus.
A crowd had gathered here. Animals and creatures of all shapes and sizes journeyed far from their homelands to meet and discuss important matters concerning the kingdoms, the farms and their livestock, and blah, blah, blah..
A cream colored dog with red and black markings laid sprawled along one of the lone benches furthest from the crowd. Although his long thick coat had began to shed, it was barely enough to combat the sweltering heat. His thick pink tongue lolled in rhythm to his tired breathes.
Chris hated coming to these.
The monthly summons had not gone as he would have liked. The meeting lasted four hours over the maximum three hour limit, due to Arma-Arma arguing with the other guilds' masters about how thieves had crossed their borders multiple times to steal precious ores from their mines. A beta from across the room suggested to the huge armor-plated armadillo, they should be training their recruits and not be so focused on a few missing scraps of copper. Which resulted in the armadillo charging the Beta and knocking over one of the old pillars in the process. Many of the on-lookers were shouting angrily at them and only making the conflict even worse.
The overseer in attendance finally took notice and threatened to ban the Arma-Arma guild from the meeting place and disband them if they continued the break the peace treaty of the Knight's Court. The armadillo let a low rumbling growl from behind his helmet, he back away from the beta and mumbled under his breath. The audience that had gathered soon went back to there private conversations and gossip.
Chris sighed and flipped over to face away from the excitement. As he waited for the overseer's long over due dismissal his gaze was met with two tiny deep lavender eyes. He was only slightly surprised to see the familiar rounded face of a small weasel.
"What'cha doing?"
"Go.. away."
"Well that's not very friendly Christopher!", the weasel spoke like they were old buddies. Chris hated when she did that. "It's just Chris. What do you want Augustine?", he rolled back over to face the crowd once more. Again, not very surprised when she popped back into his field of view. "I couldn't help but notice Gep didn't come with you to the summons again." August's tail swayed lazily from side to side. "You follow me here almost every time time and your just now pointing this out?"
August glance at him mischievously. "I just figured since we're 'neighbors' we could make the trip out here together." Chris stared at her with a blank expression. "So what's been up with you and Gep? You been keeping her busy with your little book club?" The little weasel crouched down and leap up onto Chris. He could feel her tiny claws prick along his pelt as she made her way down his side and onto what little exposed bench space was left. He could tell it was going to be yet another long interrogation from her.
"It's not a 'book club', and what I'm studying is none of your business.", he spoke flatly. "Then what is it? Must be super important if you constantly need Gep's help all the time! She's really smart, you know, way before I got her to join in all this 'guild' stuff. We used too.. " Chris began zoning out her obnoxious chattering. He pondered if he could punt the reddish-brown rodent without the overseer noticing.
He glanced over to where the overseer was sitting.
A silver deer chimera wearing a purple scarf was lounging on top of one of the few moss-covered statues in between three crumbled pillars. He seemed to be focused intently on a small battered brown book. Chris let out an annoyed huff, no wonder it was taking so long to leave. He's been reading that damn book this whole time!
Chris cleared his throat to get the intention of the deer creature.
"Uhmm, excuse me..?"
The overseer directed an ear to the side but kept his eyes glued to the old book. Well, at least he was somewhat listening.
"We've been waiting here for a while now, when are you going to dismiss us?"
"Due to the recent heat wave and the at the King's suggestion, no one is to leave Knight's Court until the sun is completely set."
Apparently this was news to all the clans present since they started voicing their apparent outrage. The overseer shut his book to address the crowded area. Wait, how did he even hold books with just hooves?
"I don't make the rules, I only enforce them. You are all free to hunt and graze within the outer walls. But do not leave without my permission, I have eyes outside here and anyone caught sneaking out will be forced to return their assignment scrolls."
Chris was puzzled. He arrived before the overseer, he was sure no one accompied him on the week long trip. Did he send someone ahead of him? The dog was tempted to see what would happen if he did leave, but he still didn't want to risk losing his assignments. He needed new books and ingredients for his research, and his clan would need the money for food and equipment repairs.
Most of the guild leaders and betas dispersed to hunt or drink, they filed neatly out of the many openings of the crumbling structure. Less than half of the crowd remained in what few shaded spaces were available ready to sleep until nightfall. A loud scream pierced the silence of the room as a small form slipped in from under the legs of the exiting group. A tiny pup bolted across the space before scrambling up one of the benches closet to the center of the structure.
"I challenge you!"
The strange dog stood tall on his perch to address the few guilds left present.
"I'll challenge any Alpha!"
Chris glanced around as the pup spoke, who's kid was this? Pups weren't aloud to attend summons, only the higher-ups could be here. Everyone else seemed confused as well.
"Whoever I beat in a fight, has to make me your new Alpha!"
The clans erupted into laughter. The pup's ears drooped and his stance falter.
"Oh, the poor thing!"
Chris glanced at Augustine who was now perched on his shoulder looking towards the center benches, she looked extremely distraught and upset. He looked back to the pup and saw what had caused her distress.
The kid was covered in mud and cuts with a few looking to be fresh. Thin bony ribs poked out the sides of his matted pelt and red rimmed the puffy whites of his eyes, it looked like he had been crying before he showed up.
"Y-you! You look tough. I'll challenge you!"
The pup was glaring up at the overseer who was still resting on the statue. Chris was taken aback by the pup's boldness. Was this kid crazy? Did he have a death wish? The chimera watched the pup with an emotionless expression.
"You don't belong here, please leave."
Although his voice was calm and polite, something about how he spoke made shivers go down Chris's spine. He nearly jolted off his seat when he felt August shift her weight on his shoulder before climbing down to the stone floor. "I'll get him out of here sir." The weasel trotted up to the pup, "Come on kiddo, let's get you something to eat. Do you like fish? I can catch what ever you want." Chris could tell she was trying her best to remove the lost dog without causing him anymore harm. But the pup leaned down and bared his fangs at her.
"I'm not going anywhere until I beat an Alpha!"
The kid tackled the her to the floor and bit into her back. August shrieked as she tried to twist herself free, which only made the pup dig his fangs in deeper. Two Betas from the crowd dashed to out to help while other shouted and scolded the child. Even though Chris disliked the rodent he knew he should try to help and ran out to assist her. But before he could pull the pup off, a blurred shaped darted past him and ripped the attacker off of her. He drove his claws into the stone floor to stop himself from slamming into the figure just ahead of him.
Chris stood behind the overseer who was balanced perfectly on his hind legs. His long lion-like tail lashed from side to side as he held the kid up high over his head by the neck. The small dog whined. "I-I beat her..! She has to make me her new Alpha now!" The chimera's ears flicked back and curled his lips in a snarl.
"What you just did was disgusting."
"Wh-wha-..?"
"Someone with no discipline or respect for others does not deserve to be anywhere near a guild."
"I beat her! I want to be in charge!"
"Why?"
The small dog stopped struggling and looked down at his captor. "Huh?" The chimera glared at him angrily. "Why should you be Alpha? What can you offer to the clan in return?" The kid piped up again. "I don't want anyone telling me what I can or can't do!" The overseer let his gaze fall to the crowd. "And what will you do with that power? Walk all over your guild to get what you want? Hurt others just to prove a point? No one here treats their clan this way." Murmurs of agreement soon followed.
"I don't care!"
Chris instinctively flinched back as the deer creature whipped his head back to face the child, he could feel the rage burning in the chimera's eyes. He gripped the now terrified pup with both arms and lifted the pup even higher and swung him down hard onto the floor. He raised the dog again and slammed him down even harder on the ground. The cries and pleads of the kid in pain as he was thrown up and down repeatedly drew in the other guilds from outside. Everyone cried and pleaded him to stop, but to no avail.
"CEDAR STOP THIS NOW!"
Augustine threw herself at the chimera, she slashed and bit into his legs as hard as she could. Cedar stopped thrashing the pup around to readjust his balance. The weasel wasted no time, she reared up and snatch the pup from his grip causing him to fall back. He rolled over onto all fours and glared at her. August tensed up, ready to drag the injured pup anyway if she had too.
"Don't help him, this is what he wanted."
Cedar reached out for the child again. The weasel arched her back, ready to get back into the fray.
Chris sucked in a nervous breath and stood between them.
"I'll take him."
The chimera looked at him carefully. "You want this destructive mutt in your guild?" Chris nodded. "He says he wants to be an Alpha, I can show him how to earn it." Cedar glanced to Augustine and then to the pup as he considerated it.
"What will you do if you fail?"
"Then I'll try again."
Cedar got back to his feet and dusted the dirt from his fur.
"You only get so many chances in this lifetime, is this really worth the risk?"
Chris lifted his head to met his gaze.
"There's only one way to find out."
The chimera sighed and motioned to Augustine.
"August, let him take the pup."
August let go of the pup's scruff. She whispered a 'thank you' to Chris as she left his side. The older dog bent down and nudged the pup with his snout to get up. "C'mon kid, your coming home with me." The little dog raised his head and sniffled, Chris saw that there were tears in his eyes.
"Why are you helping me?"
"I'm giving you a second chance, I want to help you be a better 'you'."
The pup still seemed unsure. As gently as he could, he lifted the pup by his tattered scruff and set him on his back. "Unless you rather stay here, and have Cedar take you instead."
"N-no..! No! I'll go with you..!"
The pup buried his face into the back of the bigger's dog's neck. Chris smirked and looked back to the chimera. "Guess he's my problem now." Cedar seemed unamused and walked back to his stoop. Chris parted his jaws in a massive yawn and trotted back to his bench where August was waiting.
"So kid, what's your name? Mine's Christopher, but call me 'Chris' for short."
The pup let out a yawn as well, and curled into the long soft fur.
"My name is Tek."

Fence ... that was a very entertaining reading ... I never imagined that dog could be Tek ... apparently ... I had been running a few days ago Quartz ... I think ... but. .. did he ... want to create his own clan? ... because he defied anyone ... besides being in that state ... of precarious health due to the hunger and malnutrition that this ... had caused ? ... hehe ... Tek if he had courage ... I think in that then was much more lonely and had already lost faith in himself ... and did not care what happened to him ...
At least now I understand why Tek ... I never suspect Chris ... and maybe Chris had found a dissipation ... or a test subject for his studies ... even so ... for that then ... I think He was just saving his skin ... who knows what Chris had planned for Tek ... in the future ... only time would tell ...
Good work, keep it up. =D

Yes ... I guess at that time ... Chris ... I did not know enough magic to go crazy with her ... or at least do that stupidity of sacrificing people to create a protection spell ... I guess This proves ... that maybe at that time ... Chris was not a complete bastard ... but now that I get it ... I wonder why Gep was no longer going with Chris ... as before ... That would have happened ... maybe Gep and Chris had an argument ... and they are taking some time ... maybe that's why it seems in a bad mood ... and something unhappy ... I wonder what happened. ?
