"SLYTHERIN!" Berith grinned as the talking hat shouted out his name.
He knew he would make it into either Ravenclaw or Slytherin. He always had a thirst for knowledge that never seemed to be sated, and believed that wit and wisdom were man's greatest treasure, as did most Ravenclaws. However, maybe it was the drive for knowledge that had him end up in Slytherin: as ambition is is their strength. Berith had a theory; some people have traits of both houses, and which ever house needed the trait of the other more was they house they would be placed in, as a way to help balance the houses. Nonetheless, he was happy with the choice; the Slytherin common room was far more interesting anyway.
The tamaskan's family usually kept quiet about their magical heritage. The few that bothered to learn magic were always sorted into Hufflepuff. This was not the only thing different about Berith though, much about the dog was different. His family always had birds for patroni, usually a raptor of some sort, while Berith's patronus was a bat. He had an affinity for potions and a secret passion for blood magic. It's not that blood magic is illegal, but most people frown upon it. As such, he mostly keeps to himself about it. His family weren't pure bloods, and he thinks that is what spurred the initial interest in blood magic. The passion of his that he finds most bewitching though is magical creatures and their husbandry. More specifically, he enjoys the creepy crawlies of the wizarding world (for this, he counts dragons as creepy crawlies).
As the clapping from the crowd subsides, Berith regains himself from thought. He thanks everyone with a small bow before taking his place at table among all the other Slytherins. In eager anticipation, his mind is on picking out not only this years classes but ones for later years as well, and fantasizing about what wonders he'll be witness to.
