I have wanted to show people the scenery where I live for quite a while, so while I was sitting down getting my head together, I took a couple of snaps with my phone.
Not my greatest snaps, but I'm used to an SLR, not a phone camera!
If any of you were unfortunate enough to watch the US "Survivor in the Outback," it was filmed less than 1km from here. (And you can't tell by looking at the complete lack of waves, but it was one of my favourite places to body board when I was younger.)
It was also a bit of a surprise that some sun came out, since it's winter right now!

It is...
You can't see it in these shots, but there's a reef there towards the shallows.
Not anything spectacular to look at - but when you are cruising in on a body board, when you find it with your face once, you don't forget the bastard is there!
(Yep, so that is what happened to me! Now you know!)

Body boarding sounds scary. I'm more of a 'paddle in the shallows and look for pretty shells' sort of person. Especially if the water is cold. Does the water ever get cold in Australia?
I so want to go to Australia some day! I keep saying to my boss that we need to open another branch in Australia, which I would naturally volunteer to run, but she's not so keen. *sigh* Although, I do have this (probably) somewhat irrational notion that if I go anywhere near the sea in Australia, I will certainly get eaten by irukandji/jelly fish. O_o
As for investigating the reefs face first, I've done that with snow boarding and snow banks. Hours of fun...

Heh! The Dolphins can still get to you in the shallows! They are scarier than the body boarding!
When a Dolphin decides to play "Chasey" with you, it's more intimidating than the thought that there's a couple of Bronze Whaler (Sharks) out there every other time!

Ken Oath it does! The water at Fisheries is basically coming off of the Antarctic!
It doesn't bother me (once my Jatz Crackers get past the shock of the cold!) though. My friends always had to explain that I wasn't insane when we went out boarding and I'd be the only one out there that wasn't in a wetsuit & was still in the water when others were getting out with the first signs of hypothermia!
And don't worry about the Jelly fish. Just stay away from the Queensland beaches (where the box jellies can be fatal) and you'll be right!

Oooh, I like dolphins! I'd want to cuddle them, though, and I doubt they'd want that, so things might get a little messy.
Very sorry to hear about the cold water, I might have to reconsider my migration plans. Thanks for the jelly fish tip, though. I have no idea where Queensland is, but I'll be sure to stay away from it nevertheless.
