Patience my ass, I'm gonna shoot something
I needed so badly needed trigger time today to vent off steam and sharpen my skill. Went out with the Notorious
pook to punch holes in dead tree carcasses.
I took my Star model S copy of the 1911A1 in .45ACP. And what you see is two magazines at 15 yards. That's 14 rounds in that grouping. Concidering I've not shot this pistol in a long time and had trigger work done to it, I'm pretty happy with the placement. Though I need to adjust my aim next time.

Rock island GI models run about 500 here in cali. Ive had mine for about 9 months and have put about 5000 rounds through it with out any problems. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/22103767/
I have a $1200 SIG myself , but one of my buddies picked up a beautiful 2 tone Kimber for $638!!! I almost picked one up during that sale as well, but I just didn't have the scratch.
Both our guns are sweet as hell shooters!
My only experience with the RI 1911 isn't all that great, see below...

I have that exact model. The local farm supply carries RI pistols for $438 but they often put them on sale for $380 which is a steal at either price. Amazingly, I have the GSI gunsmithing course for modding the standard 1911 to a modern, well shooting pistol and... gasp... the RI 1911 had them already done. For the money, they are a hell of a bargain. 5 stars, would buy again.
My buddy has a RI 1911 in .22TCM/9mm, he needs to send it back.
The .22tcm goes fail to extract after the first magazine. Once it warms up the cases need to be forced back out of the chamber, they are so jammed in there that the extractor literally rips through the rim.
He CANT shoot the 9mm barrel, there's no feed ramp ground into it!!!?! Wtf?

imo, trying to shoot a 1911 in anything other than the .45 acp that the gun was originally designed for is going to end in disaster. The gun itself was designed for the .45acp and if you go changing tolerances and and specifications to shoot ammo it wasnt made to shoot, you are going to get these problems. also what kind of ammo are you using? steel cased, brass or aluminum? i have found that my RIA 1911 in .45 will eat any type of ammo, but fails to extract on alot of the russian made steel cased ammo
Armscore ammo made by RI. The only ammo available here. It runs perfectly for the first magazine. Starts jamming during second mag, we kept a cleaning rod on hand to clear the chamber and kept running it after it failed. As we kept shooting the cases got progressively harder and harder to force from the chamber. We gave up when the aluminum cleaning rod started to mushroom.
It seems the chamber was contracting as the metal expanded with heat, clamping down harder and harder on the cases, I could be wrong, but that's my theory.
I'm thinking he got a fluke, it had good reviews in both calibers and seems otherwise well made.
The missing feed ramp on the 9mm barrel tho, that's pretty shitty QC to ship that unit out.

Im not too familiar with the .22TCM/9mm combo pistol, but i just looked up on a few forums and there are two possible problems.
First possible problem: Wrong extractor. According to the forums, RIA says there should be two extractors. one for the 9mm rounds, and one for the .22tcm rounds. if the wrong extractor is used it will wear out prematurely, especially if steel ammunition is being used.
Second possible problem: Bad Ammunition. Another thing mentioned was that the casings for the .22TCM rounds were expanding too much when fired. meaning there is over pressure in the shell when the bullet is fired and causes the brass to get stuck in the chamber.
Basically from what i have read, i think the .22TCM may be over powered for what it is trying to deliver and the 1911 platform may just be a bad platform to use the round.
Now as for your 9mm barrel not having a loading ramp, it should look like this. 1911's dont have fancy loading ramps like most modern guns. If it is lacking something from this pic then yes something is wrong and it needs to be sent back. http://www.tactical-life.com/wp-con.....1435090545.jpg

Yeah, we read up on the over pressure line of thoughts too. But wouldn't over pressure cause failure from the first shot, and not the gradual degradation of performance that we experienced?
We tried multiple times to get it to run, every outing ended the same, 1 mag of flawless operation, then progressive jamming issues.
Someone in the various threads discussing the ammo over pressure noted that there are 2 plants making ammo, and one seems to run better than the other. My boy has boxes from both, we couldn't tell any difference. It failed just as quickly with ammo from either plant.
We honed and polished the chamber, and that helped, but once it got warmed up after a mag and a half started failing again.
As to the 9mm feed ramp, it's been over a year since I've seen the gun. But IIRC, instead of the slight angle you can see there, it's simply a squared off block of steel.
He forgot his safe code, and doesn't remember which box the papers went in when he moved.... so I can't ask to look it over again right now.
What really sucks is he has 11 of my guns in there while I'm going through this divorce!!!!

Sorry to hear about that last part man
It may be a combination of the casing expansion and the barrel getting hot. its possible that barrel had its chamber machined out just a little too much which is why the heat would be affecting it that much after just a few rounds.
Im still happy with my 1911A1 GI model in .45 acp that i got from them. ive only had to replace the recoil spring and upgraded from 12lbs to 18.5 lbs. other than that its still fully original after about 5k rounds.
Wishing you luck!

Yeah, he's bummed about the TCM being such a fuckup of a gun. RI seems to have a good rep, and all of my .22lr simply LOVE the armscore ammo.
He's got a lot on his plate with two jobs, so shooting is not a priority for him. So weather or not he will follow up on fixing that gun is in the air.
Once my bullshit is over, I'm getting my guns back. Even if I have to spend some time getting cozy with his safe and a chopsaw.....

I will say this though. the .22TCM has a muzzle velocity of around 2,000 FPS (1,364 Miles per hour) Instead of putting it in a platform designed for normal pistol rounds, why not make a carbine from scratch for it? its basically a compact .223. would be a neat little survival rifle round compared to a .17hmr, .22LR, or .22 mag
Look for a Ballester-Molina.

Very high quality and they never attracted collectors so they are still affordable.

A Chinese made Norinco made for Civilian import from the '90s. It is their Cowboy Companion SKS, Its been pre drilled for a scope mount on the receiver, no bayonet or lug or cleaning rod and the barrel is 16.5" instead of the normal 22". It is all machined with a chrome lined barrel. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/22929993/
Ahh, the Calli complacent SKS, damn those folding bayonets in all those drive by bayonetings. Also known falsely as the paratrooper SKS, they were made exclusively for the US market. Got me a unfired minty Norco and ex-Chinese military model, Russian, Yugo, and a very rare Albanian SKS.
I got this one in mint condition which you can tell from the gas piston having a polished end. It cost me 500$. But in my opinion..... Never shooting a gun or never driving your car for fear of ruining its value is like not having sex with your wife to save her for the next guy lol. Last i checked there are only two type of SKS' that cali hates and have banned. All yugoslavian ones with the Grenade launcher attachment and the Chinese Type 56 M and P models which take AK mags.
The transformer fanatic in me wouldn't mind owning a Walther P.38 just for the geek-gasm of it, but as far as actual guns I'd like to own? Well, a Judge is good for intimidation purposes of course. Nothing quite intimidates like a handgun that can shoot shotgun slugs, but other than that I'm not sure. Never really been a gun person. Now swords on the other hand.
I've got a 1943 Walther P-38. It's gorgeous! Only real issue is I think the front sight has been replaced with a taller post. It shoots WAY low!
As for the judge. A buddy has one. Solid gun in .45LC, but the .410 shells are a different animal! Target loads leave a lot to be desired. Buck shot is pretty devastating. But then you get into the "self defense" loads... I'm sure throwing that much shrapnel at someone is gonna do the trick, but you're only gonna want to do it once!!! The self defense rounds felt like hitting myself in the palm with a 2lb hammer!!!!!!

Oh I can imagine. The kick on that thing has to hurt like a sonovabitch, not to mention the sound. Can you just imagine firing a Judge inside a building? Hell, fire one of those off in a warehouse and it'll sound like you just set of a pound of C4. I imagine a round from that could go through a cinderblock wall fairly easily, not to mention anyone standing behind said wall. Hell, an AP round fired from one of those things could probably kill an engine block.
And I can just imagine what the Walther P-38 looks like. Is it black or chromed?

you posted a picture of yourself with a GUN!?!?!!!!
That's it I'm unfollowing you!
Or not, great grouping! I love 1911 for sure! I've got a SIG locked up in my buddies safe while I'm going thru this divorce thing, both my kids, then 11-9, hit an 8" steel popper at 25 yards on their first EVER shot with a .45!!!!! I was a very proud dad!!!
They also shot a .44 mag Deagle my youngest had so much fun with that one he wasted half a box of ammo. He was loading 3 rounds in the mag by himself, wasn't strong enough to get more in. But it was great to watch him enjoying that big of a gun. Still haven't gotten him to pull on the .50 Deagle.

[Armchair instructor warning] Looks like you're either tightening your non-trigger fingers reflexively, or using different ammo than what it was sighted in with- which is what I suspect since your group is pretty clean otherwise.
I know with my '95 Winchester carbine you basically have to aim at the ground at any distance shorter than 200 yards, since military rifles were still sighted to be used like howitzers back then.
