why wait? theres an actual drug that can cause an effect similiar to hypnosis in powdered form!

did he drink ale with devils breath in it? devils breath is a drug flower that can be ground into a tasteless odorless powder and causes suggestability and, after a full day, amnesia, it is pretty much the IRL equivuilant to hypnosis, and I could imagine couples into hypnosis would gladly buy it to hypnotize each other, even if they'd have no memory of it the next day... heck, it could even be a daily prescribed drug to make an insane institutionalized man forget the phobias that made him crazy, but a doctor would need to constantly supervise the patient to administer devils breath.
