Disney has Humphrey bear, who appeared in some Goofy and Donald Duck cartoons. Some shorts were directed by Jack Hannah, which after leaving Disney studios, worked with Walter Lantz and created a "knock-off" version of Humphrey, called Fatso the bear.

What do you mean "more effort"

I mean by adding more details into the characters, like expressions, details in clothing and if the characters have fur make it look like it's fur. I say this because the art style for certain cartoons are too simple and when I first saw the bears, I shit you not,I thought about ice cream. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE these cartoons and respect the amount of effort the studios are putting into these cartoons, but I feel like they could put a little more effort into the character design.

Well think of it this way simple designs mean better animation, look at Spectacular Spiderman and Spider TAS while the latter has better character design it has shit animation while with the former its inverse

A weird chain of events (starting with wondering who Walter Lantz was) led me to find that Universal Brazil is has made a Woody Woodpecker movie. I found a subtitled version of the trailer and it made me laugh. I like how they rendered him.

Yep, it's running on cinemas here in Brazil right now. I confess I'm tempted to watch, but I don't really expect a good movie.
