This cemetery was established by the patriarch of the first family to arrive in the area, Reverend John McKinstry, who organized a church.
Because of differences in beliefs between he and some of his parishioners about religious doctrine, he declined to be buried in the town's main cemetery.
Well into the '70s it belonged to the last surviving member of the McKinstry family. It is now apparently maintained by the local historical society.
