In memory of 'Zipper', the 20+ year old papillon dog, owned by the Pereira family (my sister Rhonda, and her two daughters Erica and Corynne), I have another 'photo-op' of him...
Taken by Erica, said picture displays him in the living room of his home in Wantagh, New York. He lived a good life, and got lots of love from family and friends in the neighborhood.
I got to see 'Zipper', one last time, during my visit to Long Island (my first one in over 23 years). And even though he'd shown signs of aging and fragility, he was still an amazing dog (in all the times when the Pereiras would come down to south Florida to visit my mother Sheila Martinez, and then some.)
It was when he'd shown signs of senility and carelessness (walking weak and aimlessly throughout the house) in final weeks, it was finally decided that 'Zipper' was to be 'put to sleep'. Of course, all of us would rather remember this feisty papillon during his early years... I'm going to miss him something fierce...
