Sharkanias und Atlantikas neue Lieblinssportart^^
I stumbled over an old video tape from my childhood. It contains some episodes of the early 90 cartoon spin off from Disneys little mermaid.
In one of this episodes, Sebastian the crab has to prove his skills in diplomatic issues with the kingdom of Sharkania.
Arielle and Fabius were cought while sneaking arround in the sharkanians castle and were locked up in a dungeon cell. But the two could trick the guard to free them in challenging him to make a fin fight with Fabius. But to keep things fair the sharkanian guard was willing to be tied up by Fabius. Instead of making a finfight, Fabius opened Arielle´s cell and the two escaped, leaving behind the tied up sharkanian.
My pic here is showing a possible what-if-scenario, that the sharkanians started to like the idea of making finfights with the combatants being tied up during the duels.
And after the peace was restored bedween Atlantika and Sharkania, this sport became kind of a hype in both kingdoms^^

OOoh, I remember I only got to know about these sharks characters because of some story books at my local library about the animated series. They both certainly look very well in ropes under the sea! There's no danger for them to get drown, but let's see if they dare to work together to get free
oh the idea of meeting Hans Christian Anderson wasn´t that bad, only the story conteins 0 logic.
It would have been better if Anderson was travelling on an ordinary ship and was recued by Arielle after a storm. But that would be too close to the plot of the movie
Furthermore Anderson´s original fairy tale of the little mermaid was inspired by the folk story myth of Undine and this story he was familiar with since his childhood

Let me know what you thought of it.

some folks like certain tv shows, while others don´t
each one can have the own oppinion.
I know the most of the episodes. The one with the sea monster was ridiculous but at the same time adorable, because it transported an important message, that even if the first impression isn´t a pleasing one, people can nontheless become friends

Oh wow never really much was into Little Mermaid as a kid but these two certainly wear the ropes very well in this situation. Wonderful pic as always partner
I have to ask did you use any reference photos when drawing this? These Disney characters looks as if they were taken right out of a scene and screen shot into your amazing drawing ^^

The little mermaid was my very first Disney Movie. I got the video tape with the movie on my 4th birthday and must say that it was the initial spark for my liking in anthropomorphic creatures.
You have no idea how often I drew Arielle in various poses and I started to draw me myself a fanfictional character as a youn merman to fit into the story universe. I even at that time started to question, why it would be so great to be a human being - with this age of 4 such thoughts are strange, aren´t they?^^ -
My parents say that when I draw human femals all of them have still a slight resemblence to Arielle, even today^^
About your question: No I haven´t used refs for Triton or the Sharkanian guy. I drew them out of my imagination, but as said, I have drawn those characters thousands of times and thus their design got stuck into my mind^^

Wow! Thats really impressive and talented you can draw straight from your head without having anything in front of you to look at while you draw. I wish I was that good but all I can really do is copy what I see when I'm looking at an image on Google or FA. Not really tracing I'll have my sketchbook next to my laptop while I draw. There has been times where I can draw cats pretty well but as for detail drawings I normally just copy it.
Just out of curiosity have you drawn anything digital or played around with any digital softwares?

you have seen my "art" as a liitle child before in my scraps folder here on FA. I wasn´t talented to beginn with, but it was the practise, that helped me a lot.
And I can´t just draw any character out of mind. If I am not familliar with this certain character, or if I haven´t seen besaid character for a long time, I also need a ref to look at, but I needn´t to copy what I see any longer.
But you, big partner, are on a good way if you are allready on the level that you can copy that what you see on screen without tracing through transparent paper.
I have experimented arround with some digital media, but I never got used to it, that thing was too complicated for me, I am a creature from the pre digital millenium^^
I stick to my traditional pencils and pens with my art

Hehe much better than me when I was a little kid^^ all I could really do during those days was draw a bunch of stick people and circles lol :)
It's really cool that you can do that though, by looking at a ref. picture of a character and able to draw from your head with knowing very well what the character should look like with each pose.
And yes I have to say I have tried drawing adobe photoshop sketch before and couldn't ever get use to the tools...plus the pen I was using was a bit laggy with the drawing and brush strokes...
Actually kind of curious did you have a ref. pic for Eternal or was this character of yours a combination of other rats......or was Eternal simply from your imagination of how an anthro rat should look like...bottom line your OC is a charming fellow^^

The little Mermaid impressed me so much, that I hardly could think about anything else really at the time I had seen the movie. My imagination ran wild all day and I depicted myself to be in this world under the sea, feeling weightless while swimming arround under the waves^^
And so I started to draw everyday. There hardly was a piece of blank paper that wasn´t filled with sketches from me at that time. On a negative side I should confess that I was ill very often at that time, had an allergic reaction of some sort against a serum from the hospital or something like that. I felt myself aweful, couldn´t go playing outside, had to stay inside the house very often and so I had to find other ways of exercise for myself and I started to dream to leave behind my human body, to have a healthy anthro body in a dimension where no illness could struck me down. This wish stayed with me all the time until today. I even now wish to have myself an anthrobody, strong, big, healthy, with no weakness, having more selfconfidence, no fear... that kind of thing.
So I drew and drew and drew. And with this I trained my skills and soon Arielle´s face still shows up all the time whenever I draw a female human or elfen looking character^^
As for Eternal´s design, here are the characters that inspired me to draw Eternal

I combined the wizard´s aura from Nicodemus with the darkness of Shadow from Brian Jaque´s Redwall, the villainous charisma of Pew from Legends of Treasure Island and the cheeky, naughty attitude of Bulli from the animals of farthing wood

Thats really cool partner that a movie such as Little Mermaid put a creative impact on you....I remember seeing Lilo & Stitch for the first time in theaters and afterwards really really liking the movie. I was actually kind of obsess with it that I would constantly look up the movie on google and just read about the story over and over again. I also googled pictures of Stitch because I really found him super appealing to look at plus he's so freaking cute^^ I have grown to like bigger, fatter, furrier characters but Stitch will forever been my favorite Disney character.
Sorry to hear you had to go through that when you were younger :( if it makes you feel any better I to have been ill a lot during my younger years. Use to get strep throat a lot when I was in grade school...don't know why but I had it every single year around the colder months my throat felt like it was on fire and I had a difficult time swallowing food. So I had to take this disgusting medicine that didn't go down easy it wasn't pill form but this liquid medicine that looked like milk but wasn't at all.....
Tbh, I've always like anthro characters more so than human characters anyways....Idk why but I've always felt like an animal...always wanted to be one...think for the longest time when I was a little kid I wanted to be a dog. Didn't know then but I think I've always been a furry....I wish I had more of a reason why I prefer animal characters more so than human characters but idk lol bottom line is one is much furrier than the other. Plus when it comes to characters being parents protecting their young from danger and bad guys....I've always liked furry characters.....hugging a scared child trying to calm them down is absolutely ten times more heartwarming to see that the Hero character is a big soft furry animal of some kind......There is a part in my story where Rick comforts a scared human child after her house burns down...not sure if thats the scenario I will choose but Rick will be doing his best in calming the little one down....hugging her warmly in his arms...brushing her hair with his claws and keeping her warm from the cold at night. Hehe seeing stuff like that in animation or any type of media comforts me....thats one of the many reason why I love your art cuz I have seen drawings such as what I have describe to you. A big furry hero comforting a small child.
Oh wow! Thats awesome I love these....I couldn't see the last link however...but that is really cool how you combine such characters to make your own OC come to life....really really cool^^ I am familiar with red wall and Also Don Bluth's film Secret of NIMH....such a classic and Iconic film Don created for us all.....Would so love to spend time and to watch it with you IRL one of these days^^

Ouch such a over sensitive throat that get sore every year when it is cold outside is something I had to suffer myself too but it went away after some time, but however it returns once in a while after two or three years, most likely among with a flu like it was last year shortly before christmas. Tbh I still am struggling with the effects of this flu, had fever yesterday and sweated a lot. But nontheless I had to do some jobs, so I felt sometimes like sleepwalking.
I see what you mean about Lilo and Stitch. This was an awesome movie, that´s for sure. The message was very heartwarming and Disney knows very well how to tell such stories^^
And hehe you probably have read my mind, because exactly what you have describe how Rick is hugging and comforting a child after a terrible moment is what i have planned for Rick in his role in my Comic Nimrod Surtur. Hehe, so much for the surprise^^
There again we are on the same level of imagination. I too wished to become such a big furry to give hugs to others, to comfort them, but also likes to be hugged^^
Such characters are allways to my liking and so I depict them and this particular scenario in my drawings. Just simple gestures of comforting and trust and care
oh and here is the link again. I hope it will work this time

Yeah it sucked but on the bright side I haven't had that type of illness for awhile now...sorta grew out of it once I gotten into middle school. My mom actually thought about getting my tonsils removed cuz they were the main cause of strep throat. But the doctors have said that tonsils actually do a pretty good job in catching germs and preventing other illnesses from happing....the only down side is getting strep throat but tbh i would much rather have that than cancer any day...so it was up to my decision if I wanted them removed or not so to this day, I still have my tonsils, I didn't want to get them removed :)
Oh hehe very nice rat I can see the resemblance now in all of these combine characters, I've always been interested on how a character is developed and how artist can depict curtain features from other characters to create their own......very very fascinating stuff^^
Nice! thats so sweet of you to have Rick do that, knowing how to comfort a scared child shouldn't be an issue for him since being a big fat furry wolf. A warm hug from Rick would most likely feel like a pillow....with his plump beer belly being so soft and pudgy to the touch and his thick meaty pecs on his chest, I could also compare that to a headrest on a sofa cushion. Hehe so in other words Rick is simply just a big furry body pillow when it comes to hugs and cuddles for people who are in need of one, whether sad or happy.
This little detail of Rick you have describe to me is heartwarming^^ Only makes me more anxious to see this comic from you partner. I must say I've had some reacquiring dreams where Rick is trapped inside of a cage....tied up in ropes and with a small scared little girl....Rick being still in his ropes the little girl found comfort when she sat on his lap hugged his big fat belly.....Making Rick less stress of the situation he had found himself into, looking around to see if there was anything sharp he could free himself from his ropes.
Rick doesn't eventually break free from his ropes but is still locked in the cage with the little girl....every time the bad men came into the room the little girl would scurry over to Rick in his arms so she can feel protected. Nuzzling her head against his soft thick furry chest, while the bad men discuss amongst themselves on what to do next...poking fun at Rick but Rick just ignores them...rolling his eyes while he comforts the scared child in his big strong arms...having her sit on his beer belly while she hugged his big frame....her hands not even close reaching around Rick's massive torso.....soon the little girl wasn't scared anymore and falling asleep against Rick's chest and the scruff of his furry neck.
hehe something like that idk why Rick had gotten himself there and who in there right mind would kidnap him and a little girl. Perhaps this idea here was actually something that I saw from a film or TV show but who knows really lol

hehe yes, I combined the aura of calm comforting from Nicodemus with the roguish attitude of Shadow from Redwall, the somewhat intimidating character from Pew and the cheeky behaviour of Bulli from the animals of Farthing wood. Then I added some of my real life wishes and characteristics for details and thus is the beginning of Eternal^^
hehe daww what a heartwarming scenario^^.
But only one thing I should mention about Rick in my comic. There is more about him then the eye can see at first. Even more then Rick is aware of himself. As I told you the story of my comic is about so called contractors, mortals who had accepted a connection to divine like beings called "Idols" granted with a special item that gives them power. And Rick has been caught up in several circumstances without realizing it at first.
But that should be enough for a teaser^^

Very interesting stuff partner that you used inspiration from characters in Redwall....I really need to get into watching that more often, apparently every single episode is on youtube in full length. Just something about the show I find very appealing probably of the characters and the fantasy mid evil times world that they live in with castles and other things.
Heheh yeah I'm a big softy I think its really cute seeing a big furry fellow such as Rick comforting a small child in his arms....or tied up with his paws behind his back, with the child sitting on his lap and hugging his big plump beer belly.^^
Oh nice! Now you've really caught my attention I wonder what kind of circumstances Rick would find himself "...roped..." into side note on this topic although this comic sounds amazing^^....Just out of curiosity back when you were drawing my OC i think it might of been a few years ago (boy how time flies) but did you use any reference photos when you were drawing Rick. I think the first one you drew of him is the one of us tied up in the dessert. Just curious I'm actually kinda wondering if their were any Disney or Don Bluth characters you found to be appealing towards Rick's rugged/attractive features in his face and body.

may I ask in return? What inspiration did you use for Rick? Do you have some refs as examples for me? I mean characters that were kind of isnpiration for your character
As for your question: Neither Disney, nor Don Bluth were the inspiration for my design for your OC Rick.
I combined a real black timberwolf
http://media.kunst-fuer-alle.de/img.....nis-lupus).jpg
for his dark appearence and parts of the fur and faceform
a giant Alaskan Malamute
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/mX4Lt466sqM/hqdefault.jpg
the most huggable dogs ever, big, fluffy
and finally I combined Vermillion
https://cdn.anisearch.de/images/cha...../full/8836.jpg
and Alexander
https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net.....20140217205812
from the anime the Junglebook.
Vermillion and Alexander I had chosen to give Rick a "daddy-flair" for I knew that you liked daddy characters very much. Both wolfs are dad characters, mature and strong. I only added some playfulness to his design
Maybe my point of view on Rick is a bit different then yours, for I depict him rather mature and less goofy, as you say.
That is also the reason why Rick in my comic will be a little bit darker and more serious then you are used to see him^^;

Hmmm...thats actually a pretty good question partner. I guess well.....hmmmm....so after I decided to switch fursonas (if you remember when I first started to appear more on FA I was a tiger...and the avatar that I used was actually some drawing I found on Google of a Tiger dressed in Cowboy clothing...now thinking about it hehe it was Hank the whole time...not Rick) The combination of different characters to form Rick came later I suppose. Personality wise I wanna say came from these to characters from Disney's Jungle Book...hehe I believe you know them well^^
http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/File:B.....d_Bagheera.png
So in a way I developed Rick's personality and humor first before I even knew or thought of what he looked like in the face or body features. I know I wanted him to be a fat wolf with the body type of a "daddy bear" haha yep you captured that perfectly in your drawings^^ Big arms, chest and of course the big beer belly
Another facial feature I had in mind for Rick was Charlie B. Barking from ADGTH....https://vignette.wikia.noc.....1447....mainly in the smile really the Rick you have drawn is perfect^^
For the body well hehe it was pretty much straight forward from there I think I have sent you ref. pictures in the pass about Rick's body type. hehe the Typical fat Cop round and plump beer/doughnut belly....the chest area being built with thick tone chubby pec muscles.
the ref. you sent me about Rick very cool I can kinda see it now :)

I only saw The Little Mermaid once as I recall and wasn't aware of the animated series, though I remember King Triton and that's a nice looking character in the Sharkanian. Interesting as well that there was a bondage scene in an episode with this being a what-if scenario, and I'd imagine a finfight could get quite epic, considering the strength both mermaids and Sharkanians would possess in their tails. It could go on quite a while as well, no risk of drowning underwater and I'm sure as rivals, both determined not to give in before getting battered into submission. With handsome, muscular mermaids and Sharkanian males being tied up, I also imagine it's quite a popular spectator sport with the ladies, especially those with an interest in bondage.
Both the Sharkanian and King Triton are looking quite confident and eager for battle and both equally strong, though the Sharkanian does have his cuirass and sharp teeth, though I suspect he'd be too honourable to consider anything like biting or hair/beard pulling and King Triton may well have the edge in experience with being older but still very strong, so maybe it ends in stalemate in mutual exhaustion and hoping someone comes to untie them.

the tv show of the little Mermaid was kind of pupolar in the 90s, because there had been three seasons and the last season wanted to come as close to the exposition of the movie from 1987, although some episodes were a bit odd^^
if you are interested in Sharkanians and the possible finfight, which unfortunately never came to happen, because it was a trick to tie up a sharkanian guard, however, the scenario contained a nice moment, where Fabius ties up the guard who stil sneered and said: This is gonna be fun^^
