I've seen a few scars like that before,
My guess, seeing the state these people live in, Like Pezwolf said, Its likely a Fungal infection. Easy to cure if cough early.
Now what wolfpup said, Vitiligo, is also a possibility, the cause is unknown though it is often secondary to an autoimmune disease. Only about 1% of the world gets it. So present day here with 7.5 billion people, its common place.
But in this world, i don't see them having anything close to that. So my money is on the fungal infection.
That is just the 2 most common ways of pigment loss, there are others as well.

I'd be interested if I saw it from her point of view.
Where it's somehow totally logical and not necessarily an offense or rejection reaction.
Like...
She senses (imagines) an impending attack, but no one is in defensive modes or responding to the threats she perceives, so she pre-emptively starts attacking everything around her to prompt a defensive response so her new hive will be on alert and in a defensive posture for when the real threat arrives. Self-sacrifice, but she's a bug, so they're more likely to be individually like that.
It would make total sense to her, be even sort of logical and noble, but for everyone else... "Hmmm Sandstorm is coming... AHHHWHATSETTHEBUGOFF?"

Silly Ran. The missing element to that food equation is Solid Snake. Food begins and ends with snake.
Also, I'm curious what level of companionship would be needed. Would an Indrel be satisfied with a guinea pig? What about... TWO guinea pigs.
...yinglets are kinda like guinea pigs, except with greater capacity for Problems.

Even though Recruit Tammisman doesn't want to make a giant bug friend today, I'm sure Yannit would love to make a little human friend today. :P
I wonder if Yannit has taken a bite out of the walls or tapestries yet... I seem to recall they eat calcium and the walls of the "teeth" are just that, and she seemed pretty interested in the drapes..

Another fun update. I love seeing Ran actually act intelligent rather than just crazy (with some enjoyable crazy mixed in, of course)
I agree that the vitiligo is a nice touch of realism. That also makes me ponder if all of Ran's "assistants" have something of interest about them that peaked Ran's curiosity.
Ominous to have Yannit's condition brought up again... I had rather forgotten that detail.

I like the fact that you gave that poor woman a scar here. The life in this world is not easy after all.
It would be interesting if the companion for her is actually someone who has a thing for her species but tries to keep it on the down low and not be looked at is being too perverted. I expect lots of blushing and shyness around her as the genuinely nice person tries their best to be on good terms with her and everyone.

You know, I find it interesting that not a single Ivenmoth personnel member has called Kassen a scav to his face or behind his back. I mean, yeah; there was the guard at the elevator who almost said it but then quickly corrected himself. However, that was because he realized Kass is an officer and he was standing right there. As for Tammisman, she still corrected herself despite his absence. She still could have called him a scav; I don't think Ran would mind.
It's like the fact that Kass the yinglet is a superior officer that it's causing the staff to be a bit more respectful towards yinglets (or at least him). Then again, I don't know how many employees know that the yinglet officer in the house is Kass or even if they knew him before his transformation. Tammisman could've been thinking, "Ooh, shoot! That's Kass. Probably shouldn't call him that."
