Cigar Review of the Week: Romeo Y Juileta Rare Corojo 2006
Hey guys, it's the last one for the month. Decided to do a pretty nice pic to end it for the month due to some recommendations from the staff. I had to jump before they were gone. Let's get into it!
Romeo Y Julieta Rare Corojo 2006:
Wrapper:Corojo
Binder:Criollo
Filler:Criollo 98
Pre-Light/Construction:
The box was all neatly packed with the stickes in a row except a few space opening so it would be much easier to grab. They recently came in, so it was a perfect time as any to grab myself a piece. The wrapper was a beautiful mild chocolate corojo wrapper. Slightly ioled so there was a good bit of shimmer. The bans were of aa bit contrast of each other. The regular Reserve label at the top was always a good indicator. The Gold label however giving it off as a unique shine to let me know this was something a little more special. A bit of a contrast, but it still caught my attention. The Veins and Seems were preset, but not too distracting from the overall look. The draw after the slice was a little snug, but a good flow, so it shouldn't be too much trouble.
The Burn Part 1:
The first few puffs were very earthy and a bit nutty from the draw. A very natural tone for a start. I like it already. A little bit of white pepper notes came along for the ride as well. So far at this point, I taste a little more refined than the regular Reserve. The draw got much more loose too. Alot of smoke enveloped. No sweet notes came into play until the near end of the 1st third. Sort of a semi sweet cocoa.
The Burn Part 2:
The earthy notes slowly started to dwindle a bit making more room for the nutty notes. The white pepper notes became a little stronger giving it more of a bite. Not too much though as the draw was still going smooth in flow. The semi sweet cocoa notes backed up a little. The sweetness was still present. The main 2 at this point was the nut and semi sweet cocoa. The Body at this point very medium.
The Burn Final:
Near the end of this stick, the feel of the stick became squishy, but still firm. Not much has changed except for the pepper notes starting to take a step back. After getting some roasty notes after a long purge, the notes became a little thicker. Between the cocoa and nut notes, the cocoa won the last draw in first finishing up with a cold draw.
Verdict:
In my honest opinion, to pick between this and the regular Reserve, my mind would stick to the original. Don;t get me wrong, this stick itself is still a treasure to behold from the pallet. I'd definitely recommend this stick if you r shop ever has them available, and grab yourself a few for a rainy day. :D
