Evil Twin 219 - Manwich
<<< PREV | FIRST | NEXT >>>
Howdy folks. I usually use this space to make a few extra jokes, but this week I'm going to do something a little different.
I want to try an experiment, and I'd like your assistance.
If you open the following link in a new browser tab:
https://coinpot.co/mine/bitcoincore.....f=95F1D5719661
...you'll see that it's a page where you can use your CPU to mine bitcoin - that ref number in the URL means that specifically, you'll be mining bitcoin for Talboc and Evil Twin. A number of folks have expressed interest in supporting Evil Twin financially, but don't want to sign up for Patreon, and others don't want to put their credit card info into Ko_Fi, or they don't have a PayPal account.
This is a way you can throw some financial support to Evil Twin, with a minimum of effort, and if your computer is set up someplace where you aren't paying for electricity, such as a college dorm room... it's at no cost to you either.
There are two pull-down tabs on the page:
The first lets you choose how much CPU you want to put towards this. I recommend either the default medium or low settings. DO NOT use the High or Very High settings unless your CPU has some substantial cooling attached to it. I have two computers that I run on here - my main computer which has a hefty radiator on it has no problem with running Very High overnight. However, my second computer, which has just a stock CPU fan, will overheat if I run it at anything higher than medium.
The second tab shows threads. Basically, each CPU core runs one thread, so if you have a quadcore, it should be set to 4 threads. An 8 core should be showing 8 threads, and so forth. It appears to auto-detect how many cores you have, and auto-sets itself, so you shouldn't really need to touch this setting.
So, if you're willing, bookmark that URL, press that START MINING button, set it running on low, and leave it open in a browser tab in the background while you're on your computer. Or if you're going to be leaving the machine on overnight anyway, crank it up onto medium while it's sitting there idle.
Hey, if you have hefty enough cooling power, that you're sure cannot be overwhelmed, throw it on high or even very high while it's idle.
As I said, this is really just an experiment. With the way the price of bitcoin has been going up and down, nobody really knows what, if anything, it will be worth a day, a week or a month from now. So I don't see this as a serious financial strategy. But, there are about 500 people who read Evil Twin here on FA, so I figured why not go ahead and ask.
It's a way you can help out, without really doing anything. And it will make Talboc happy.
In the meantime, the Patreon will still be there, as always - the home for Talboc's loyal minions.

Thanks in advance, gang.

*grin* Reminds me of a Louie Anderson stand-up routine. Long story short, he was commenting on the price disparity between beverage sizes: the larger the drink, the lower the cost per ounce, which is as it should be. But in his comic scenario, the second largest size was only 5¢ less than the 50-gallon drum. So he's walking down the street with a 50-gallon drum of soda, and people are staring at him. He tells them, "Nickel difference! Nickel difference!" ;)
I wonder would little guy mind if a big bad Wolf paid for his meal?might at least give me a foot in the door to get sitting across the table from that little guy.this old wolfs technically retired from the hole good and evil game but that there keeps making it aweful tempting to come out of retirement and wouldn't mind having a little chat with him;). Get a better feel for where he stands on a few things.
