This is the first of a set of 9 refs for Skaig. He is a Hellhound, and due to this, he travels both the realms of the living and dead. As he navigates through the different circles of hell found in the story of Dante (Specifically Inferno), he morphs and twists into different forms.

This is the first circle of hell : Limbo.

In this form, Skaig's body is nothing more than dark matter, inscribed with runes of old that only the wisest may decipher. (They do mean something if you can figure them out!) The lonesome existence that is limbo takes all detail and uniqueness out of each of it's inhabitants, leaving them bland, formless entities who linger for eternity. Skaig's body is twisted to blend in with the damned of this circle, losing all distinguishing markings to his Overworld form, and taking on this bland form.
