Band Practice
During the time of waiting for the audition the lupine named Kane had mentioned found Nicholas still trying to get a job. While nothing yet had come up, at least he got some help delivering resume letters from Skye. The vixen was more than willing to do so since she felt she owed the fosky a little bit of help since he did those two things with her already. “So, have you been doing anything to prepare for this band audition?” she asked the day before which was a Friday.
“Just been singing in my spare time,” Nicholas replied. Skye was still in the same cosplay in terms of dyed fur during that convention. It would still be another week or so before she would change again. But the female figured seeing how well this one worked, she was going to try similar ones at least until the next cosplay convention which would happen some months from now.
“Well I really hope you get in! Say, you think I can at least see you before you head in there tomorrow night? Just to wish some luck?”
“I’d like that,” Nicholas replied. “If you can’t make it at least let me know.”
Saturday night then came and the auditions began at around five in the evening. Even though the fosky got there early, there was already quite a bit of a line. “Well damn…” he thought. The guy got out of his car and went towards it. Nicholas saw the posters advertising the audition which matched the card Kane had given him. He was just about to get in when he heard her voice. “Hey Nicholas!”
Looking showed Skye walking up towards him. “Well hey Skye!” he replied. “I guess you really did show up!”
“Well I never told you I wouldn’t!” the vixen said with a giggle. That sound made his heart go fast and blush a little more; it was so cute.
“So, how’d you end up getting here?”
“I just had to do some things with some of those you met at the convention. So I was able to stop by here on my way home!”
“Convenient. Sadly, I need to get in line and you probably need to get home.”
Skye nodded and got a bit of a sad look. “Yeah I know.” She then got a happy smile again. “So then, I’ll make this quick so you can get in line. Good luck, and here’s a little something else.”
The vixen gave the male a warm hug in which he returned but blushing. Skye then pulled back. “Now go get ‘em!”
Nicholas watched her walk away, dazed for a bit before returning back to the present. The fosky quickly got in the line and waited. He was surprised at how fast it moved. Judging by the looks on those who left, the auditions must have gone quickly since it didn’t seem anyone had been chosen yet. Were they just bad or was Kane that picky? Soon the guy was in and he could see a bit of what was going on. The lupine himself was at a table watching the people coming. There was a red x behind them and every time they were rejected, it would come on with a loud buzzing sound when the lupine pressed a big red button by his right paw. Harsh, but effective.
It seemed none of the other people who tried for guitar or singing seemed to get in. Of course, some of them were just off key or couldn’t really play. A couple went too over the top which wasn’t what Kane was looking for. Then soon it became Nicholas’s turn. The lupine’s eyebrows went up when he saw the fosky. “Nicholas!” the second male stated. “Glad you made it!”
“Well Skye somewhat convened me to do this which is a lot of the reason,” the fosky replied.
“Well step up to the mike and let’s hear you!”
Nicholas did and something seemed to awaken inside of him. It was a familiar feeling, a rush of fun on being on a stage about to sing again. The fosky just let his heart sing out. And when his little bit was over, Kane was smiling and clapping. “Welcome aboard man!” the lupine said and crossed something off a clipboard.
The long-haired male joined the second one to watch the rest of the auditions. Now that guitar and singing ones were over, there weren’t many left. However, at one point there was an audition that was so bad, Kane and Nicholas hit the red button faster than they could make a pizza disappear. Then came another find named Greg who was a red macaw and a bass player. The avian sounded fine so Kane signed him up. All that was left were drums and that went to a female corgi named Misty who had short hair dyed purple who really knew how to pound them. Kane was pleased and called everyone up on stage where three more people came out. One was a coyote named Darcy with long hair dyed blue. Another was a male Doberman named Daniel who did the keyboard. The final one was a love bird named Alexis who did percussion.
“Alright!’ Kane stated. “So then, we’ve got our band together! Before we leave tonight, we need to come up with a name for ourselves and exchange contact info since our first practice will be this Tuesday from two till five p.m.! But first, an introduction.”
Kane started by saying he did the lead guitar and that all ideas were welcome. However, he would have the final say in things. Next Darcy introduced herself as a female singer and second guitar player. Plus, she was also dating the lupine. The final part was that she was into the cosplay like Skye but not on the same level as the vixen. Alexis then stated she would do the percussion parts during this. These three Nicholas had seen around in his high school days as well. Kane was then asked about bringing in guests and he said that would be alright. After the name Setting Star was chosen and contacts were exchanged the new band members were on their way home. But Nicholas was quick to call Skye up. “Hello?” came her voice.
“Skye, it’s me. I got in.”
“Really?!” came the vixen’s reply. “Oh that’s wonderful! I’m really happy for you!”
“Thanks. So then, you want to see me practice with them? We have our first practice this Tuesday.”
“Sounds like fun! And I guess it’s only fair since I did invite you to my convention! What time will it be?” Nicholas gave her the details and the female said she could make it before they said goodnight and hung up.
The day came but instead of pulling up to the house Skye was in, the fosky only went to a place nearby. Skye told him that the reason was so her parents wouldn’t suspect something just yet. He then saw the vixen coming up. Her fur was the same orange but this time she was light purple tank top and her shorts weren’t as short this time around. Seeing the vixen made Nicholas heart lurch at the sight of the female. She got into his car with a smile. “Well this is a first for me,” Skye said. “I’ve never been to a band practice.”
“Well there’s a first for everything like me going to your convention,” Nicholas replied, playfully elbowing the female. She playfully shoved him back in return with a giggle.
The two talked as he drove to this place and soon they had pulled up to an apartment. They got out of the car and were soon inside. “Welcome, come on in,” Kane said when he saw the two. “Oh and you brought her with you to.”
“I figured Skye should come to this,” the fosky replied.
“Darcy is going to flip when she sees who’s come. Hey honey; guess who’s here!”
“Darcy?” the vixen asked. The coyote came into view and her eyebrows went up at the sight of Skye as did the vixen since the second female realized the first was into the same stuff as her.
“Wait Nicholas actually brought the Skye?” the coyote stated and smiled. “I’ve seen and heard so much about you at the conventions I attend with my boyfriend! I’m such a huge fan of yours and how you really pull off the look!”
The vixen blushed but smiled. “You know each other?” Kane asked.
“Well I’ve seen her around and I love how she takes the cosplaying to the next level! I could never do that which makes me even more impressed by her!’
“Well I guess it’s nice to meet someone who’s a fan even though you could be considered my first one really outside of my friends!” Skye replied.
“And I don’t?” Nicholas asked, putting on a fake look of hurt. The vixen just nudged him playfully.
“Well let’s get you set up,” Kane stated. Darcy did pull Nicholas to the side for a moment though in private.
“I think you’re really lucky,” the coyote told the fosky. “Not that I’m not with Kane, but I think you are to know Skye. She really seems like a nice girl and is quite a looker. Maybe you should think about hooking up with her. I know what a great guy you are since I can see what’s going on between you two.”
The female giggled and left the male standing there. Nicholas had forgotten about how perceptive she could be and could spot a relationship in progress even if the people in question didn’t realize their feelings yet. Still what the female has said made Nicholas think for a few seconds before realizing about the real reason for coming over. The guy made it to the soundproof band room with Skye sitting at a corner but was strangely placed where she could see Nicholas perfectly. The fosky blushed but turned to look at the rest of the room. Soon the rest of the band members had shown up. The practice went well and Darcy and Skye spent a bit of the time having fun talking about cosplaying and other things they were into. The coyote didn’t make mention of what she had told Nicholas though.
“Alright, so then we’ll be meeting up again Thursday and Saturday as well at the same time,” Kane said to the band near the end of the practice. “I hope that works for everyone. Of course, in some cases we may meet on Sundays as well if we ever do put one a gig which I’m hoping to do. But let’s not jump too far ahead of ourselves. We’ll see you then.”
Skye and Nicholas left with them talking about what had happened. They soon reached the place where he had picked her up and they got out of the car. “I really had a great time watching you sing,” she said, blushing. “I would like to come over again as much as possible. Plus, I like that I can connect with Darcy there.”
“I’m just glad you had fun as well,” the fosky commented, blushing to and rubbing the back of his head with his right paw. “If we do have a gig, whenever it is, I hope you do come.”
“I would love that.” The two then figured it was time to say bye for now. “Well… Goodnight Nicholas…”
“Goodnight Skye.” The fosky watched her walk away, seeing how that tail, those hip, and that ass move and never noticed it before with another female. He then saw the vixen looking back at him, blushing harder like he was. Nicholas saw her turn a corner and disappear. What Darcy had said came back to his mind and then realized something.
“I like Skye… I like her a lot…” the male whispered. It made him smile thinking he had found someone again. Even though she was 18 and a cosplayer, there was no doubt that the vixen was quiet a looker. But all the fosky wanted was to date the female. He had no intentions at this point of even just sleeping with her, but to truly go out with Skye. Nicholas drove home, happy that his life really seemed back in motion. But then he would get a call about something else that would really make his life do so.
