Just as a tip on rice paper, it bleeds a lot so be careful on how much color and ink and water you use... i still have problems with that. I'm gonna try Bristol Board for my paintings in Sumi-E, but i never tried watercolor paper either. Anyway, thanx for the luck.
Thanks for the tip! I've tried a paper similar to rice paper and it bled so much I was horrified, but then I thought it had great potential if I just learned to control it better.
I've not tried bristol yet, but that might be nice. I'm just thinking it might warp. Watercolor paper is of course made to take very wet medium so you get nice sharp lines and pretty cool values! You should get little pieces of both papers and do some tests!

I'll test it like you said. You might also find that Ripe Paper is more expensive as well, so forget using it if you have tight expenses; like me. Have you heard of white newsprint paper? I've heard of it and found out it does exist, so you might want to try that instead of rice paper. In my trials comparing them, they work the same way. However it's hard to find a place where they have any for sell; places like Michaels or Hobby-Lobby don't carry it here in Texas. But i hope you'll have better luck than me.
Also, if you find a place where they sell white Newsprint, can you tell me where you found it? I'd like to see if i can have the same luck you might get.
