Sergeant Navin must be confused in his memory. Prince Roland could not have been at the Battle of Apparated Mattocks, for he had not even been born yet. The Antglade Uprising (and subsequent Fall) occurred during the reign of Yngvar the Cunning, six generations before Sartorius.
There could have been some sort of border skirmish later, and the old soldier is conflating two Antglade battles - one at the beginning of his career, and one at the end of it. As told, the story is chronologically impossible.
