Furry D&D - yet another map, and purple glowing mushrooms!
<<< PREV | FIRST | NEXT >>>
As Mekie and Whault rush forward, leaving the rest of you behind in fading light, they enter a high vaulted cavern with a faint glow all it's own. Purple fungus mushrooms grow from ceiling and floor, some of them at least ten feet tall, multiple layers of flanges and caps glowing a faint purple-white color from underneath the caps. To the left a massiave stalagtite has become a column of stone. Ahead and to the right is a large pool of still, clear water, shining faintly in the glowing mushroom light. The faint clicking noises stop quite suddenly as they enter the cavern. The cave suddenly seems quiet. The quiet of someone not making any noise. Whault notices an odd smell in the air. Faint and rather unpleasant. A disquieting smell that instinctively bothers him...

Whault enters the cavern, screeching to a halt. The giant, luminescent fungus immediately catch his attention, prompting him to examine them from afar. He quickly becomes aware of the sudden silence, and shortly after, the disquieting odour.
"I... I'm not sure..." His reply comes across as distant. Distracted. He stares out half-vacantly, attempting to recall anything about the fungus, while at the same time struggling to place the scent... Or at the very least, determine why it makes him so uneasy.
(( Seems like more of a Ranger thing, but I guess it's possible that if they're poisonous, Whault may know something' about 'em through his heal skill. So... Anything familiar about the 'shrooms? Or the smell, for that matter? ))

{{The natural 20 knowledge check says you know of the fungus. It is a common fungus growth for deep caves commonly called Royal lights, although it does not usually grow to such size without cultivation. It is edible, although not particularly palatable to most species of sentients. Additionally, you know that with proper cultivation techniques, a crop this size could grow from spore to ready-to-harvest in six months. This particular strain spreads naturally in the wild through spores that pass through the digestive system unharmed and thus spread in cave systems. The phosphorescent glow means these mushrooms are ready to harvest, as they glow as a means to attract creatures who would eat them. In the wild, they often grow in patches along with other, less harmless mushroom species, some of which can actually attack adventurers.
The smell is nothing you've ever smelled before, it's only an instinctive reaction that is bothering you.))

Recalling something pertinent, Whault snaps back to attention.
"These should be safe, but other things often grow with 'em -- potentially dangerous. Keep an eye out for anything different."
Cautiously making his way through the cavern, he follows after Mekie, taking care not to brush up against anything.
