The Iris Orbital Elevator is a massive super structure rising up from the Gulf of Guinea off from Equatorial Guinea and the neighbouring regions. At the base is a series of artificial islands, consisting of ports, industrial facilities and a small 'city' created for the visitors. In the center at the base station is a massive pillar rising up into the heavens, within it several cables carry up trains into space to the end station.
The Iris Elevator itself consists of the base station, the core pillar, six transport cables (with more planned as there is additional room within) and finally the End Station several tens of thousands miles up. For protection the structure is covered with defensive shielding along it's length and at various intervals contains built in defensive systems. It's construction was completed as a joint venture between several major corporate entities.
