Many different countries wear the engagement ring (or wedding band) on the right hand (many European countries especially), as well as it being a common thing with non-hetero couples in general (it signifies they're in a monogamous relationship). That said, many different countries have many different interpretations on why they wear them on the right hand. Overall, though, that's just if said people are following traditions. Many people wear them however they want if tradition isn't their thing.
I agree with kugetsu. To give you some background, in brazil we wear the engagement rings on the left, except in the marriage day, where it goes to the right rand, to give space for the wedding band. I am still waiting for my boyfriend to give me a ring, then I'll choose which hand I'll wear it on :D
speaking as a child of adoption, adoption isn't a bad thing, often it's a better life for a baby who otherwise would be growing up in conditions not conducive to a healthy or emotionally stable life. my birth mother was fifteen when she had me, she was still in school and was in no way ready to raise a child by herself. so she did the only thing that would guarantee a good life for me, she gave me to a family that was ready to raise a child but couldn't have kids of their own, one who had already proven to be good parents to another child (my older brother) adoption isn't a bad thing, or a thing that means that your real parents don't love you. in many cases. adoption means that your birth parents couldn't love you any more. it means they chose to give you a better life. it's just in this example the parents of our big floof woofer just dumped a baby in a box, but this adoption meant that he had a better life with better parents and loving siblings.
